MillerCoors is filing a lawsuit with the New England Patriots claiming that they withdrew from a signed agreement to be an exclusive sponsor of the team from 2012 – 2019 to go with a better deal with Anhueser Busch / InBev. MillerCoors was a shared sponsorship partner with the Patriots for the last 10 years and was in negotiations to become the team’s exclusive partner when the NFL team backed out of the deal.
A complaint is rumored to have been filed in the Massachusetts state court to uphold their agreement. Patriots lawyers have stated that they do not have knowledge of an official complaint being filed. The current deal expires in February of 2012. [BusinessWeek]
