Rogue Brewmaster John Maier has brewed 21 different beers for the 21 years of the Oregon Brewers Fest. To honor the OBF and John’s “21er”, John brewed a one-time batch of an Olde Ale, called 21 Ale.
Very few kegs of this beer have been released. As the brewery states, only bars that have been “Rogue Loyal” will receive this beer.

Choklat is an understatement when it comes to the chocolate aspects of this beer. If you have had Mocha, the chocolate you smell is HALF of what is in the brew.
It’s Beer Geek Tuesday at Cypress Street. In addition to new beers for the occasion, a spiffy new logo is paired with them. Now that Labor Day has come and gone, people are starting to take fall seriously. What are the first beers I think of ? Oktoberfests/Marzens. Cypress Street agrees.
Today begins an oktoberfest celebration on Tuesdays. A new oktoberfest beer (or 2) will hit tap handles each Tuesday during September. I’m sure there will be some surprises along the way. In addition to these fall lagers and ales, the chefs at Cypress Street will be pairing traditional German food. Just another way to beer geek out. The beers today:
Terrapin Pumpkinfest – Pumpkin Ale, 6.1% ABV. Brewed like an oktoberfest with pureed pumpkin added in the finish. It’s malty and pumpkin-y at the same time.
Left Hand — Oktoberfest. 6% ABV. Toffee, sweet malt. Hints of coffee and roasted malt. Longmont, CO
Also – the latest in Left Hand/Terrapin’s Midnight Collaboration – Oxymoron will be sold by the glass. Read about Oxymoron HERE!

Back in March, I mentioned Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Breakfast – a coffee infused imperial stout with oatmeal. In tasting, you will note bittersweet chocolate notes, offset by sweet oatmeal. Roasted malts and coffee are present. Coffee is stronger on the palette than in the nose. If you have had it, you understand how delicious it is. Well, here’s another one to excite your palate. Introducing Rauch Beer Geek Breakfast, known outside the United States as Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Bacon. Now beer is truly for breakfast. This edition is a smoke beer version of the Beer Geek Breakfast. I have frequently hear people describe smoke beers as having a “bacon” like flavor. Throw in the coffee beans and oat flakes you are well on your way to starting the day right.
Taste Expectations: Roasted, smoky malts. The smoke is a little bacon-like in flavor. Roasted coffee beans. Real. Espresso flavor. Oatmeal softens the flavor past the smoke notes. Complex and fun.

Beer Rundown: Hops: Willamette, US Goldings, Rogue Farms Revolution Hops, Malts: 2 Row, Briess Amber, C-40, Wyermann Carafa, Rogue Farms Risk Malt Other: Simpsons Golden Naked Oats, Franco-Belges Carawheat, Molasses, Brewer’s Licorice Yeast: Wyeast Old Ale Blend Taste Expectations: Complex. Roasty malts. Tastes of barrel aging. Brown sugar/molasses. Soft wheat flavor. Availability: 750 ML ceramic bottles. Very limited draft. Cask Offerings

Southern Tier takes over all 10 tap handles at The Porter officially at 6pm! However, Molly Gunn (owner of The Porter) says if you swing by at lunch you can have your pick 😉
The Beers:
Mokah – Imperial Stout, 10% ABV. A 50/50 blend of Jah*Va and not yet release in Georgia Choklot. Coffee & chocolate
Creme Brulee – Imperial Stout, 10% ABV. This stand out imperial stout is brewed with vanilla beans and generous caramel malt. It takes like you think!
Phin & Matts Extraordinary Ale — American Pale, 5.4% ABV. Lots of whole flower hops, malted barley, crystal filtered water. Nice hoppy pale.
Big Red — Imperial Red Ale, 9.5% ABV. Single hopped w/ Hallertau. Spicy. Malty with sweet undertones.
UnEarthly IPA — Imperial IPA, 9.8% ABV. Imperial IPA with huge hop bill. Southern Tier describes it as aggressive.
422 Pale Wheat Ale — American Pale Wheat Ale, 5.8% ABV. Unfiltered. Hints of orange and sweet malts. Tribute to responsible earth practices. Packaged w/ recycled materials etc. Wheat, barley, hops play big roles in 422.
Iniquity Imperial Black Ale — 8.9% ABV. Called the “Antithesis of Unearthly,” this is a hoppy black ale, much like a black IPA.
Farmer’s Tan – Imperial Pilsner, 9% ABV. Big pilsner flavor that hides the 9%. Big bold American take on the style.
2X IPA – Imperial IPA, . Soon to hit wider release in the southeast. Very popular hoppy offerning by Southern Tier
IPA — 6.9% ABV. Essentially the beer that made the brewery. It’s an American IPA. AKA — The iso-alpha acid experience
