Boulevard Kicks Around Cans

Brewbound just mentioned that Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) could be considering cans in 2012.

“I think the sentiment around here is that, eventually, we need to do it,” he said. “If cans are going to get placement in Missouri, we want it to be our cans and not another brewery. If we can do it financially and find the space, we could be in cans by next summer.

The brewery already does aluminum bottles…

Boulevard Brewing Helps Victims Of Joplin Tornado

Boulevard Brewing announced today a fundraising plan to help the individuals impact by the Joplin tornado.  On May 22nd, a devastating F5 (massive, evil bitch of a tornado. Winds 200+) ripped through Joplin, Missouri killing 122 people and injuring more than 1,000 others.  The storm was the 8th worst in history, causing over $3 billion dollar in damage.

Throughout the month of September, Boulevard will donated $1.00 for every keg sold in Missouri to the Red Cross.  40% of the sales of Boulevard beer occurs in the state, so the brewery hopes a meaningful donation will be made when the month is over.

“It’s no secret that Boulevard beer is one of Kansas City’s treasures,” said Matt Meyer, chief executive officer for the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross, “and the Red Cross is incredibly grateful that such an esteemed company has decided to demonstrate its commitment to its local communities throughout Missouri by assisting us in the Joplin relief effort.”

Boulevard Shipping Up To Boston, Expanding

Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) is making a jump close to Atlantic waters.  Starting in September, Boulevard will be available in Massachusetts.   This is the first state on the east coast/east coast market to see Boulevard.   Dissecting a recent press release:

All year-round, seasonal, and limited-release Smokestack Series beers will be available, some in 750ml bottles and others in 12-ounce four-packs. Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale will also be sold in five-gallon kegs, providing bars and restaurants the opportunity to serve a domestically produced Belgian Saison-style beer on tap. Boulevard will be widely distributed throughout Boston, and will be marketed statewide through the Massachusetts Beverage Alliance (MBA).

Boulevard will also begin expanding the brewery in October.

While Boulevard looks east, back home in Kansas City the company is set to embark on another brewery expansion in October. A six-month, $3 million project will remove six original 105-barrel fermentation tanks, replacing them with eight 300-barrel vessels built in neighboring Springfield, Missouri. Upon completion, Boulevard’s annual fermentation capacity will jump by approximately 20 percent, to wellover 200,000 barrels per year.

Boulevard Brewing was founded in 1989

Deschutes Edition Of Boulevard Conflux ‘White IPA’

As mentioned earlier, Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) is collaborating with Deschutes Brewing (Bend, OR).  The breweries are creating a ‘white’ IPA.  Even more interesting – this collaboration doesn’t involve travelling.  The white IPA is created off a single recipe that will become unique when Deschutes & Boulevard brew it.  Each brewery is releasing this beer under their own labels.

Label:

Isn’t it how it always works? A few brewers sit around tippling and waxing poetic about what-ifs, wild ideas and untapped dreams when one suddenly proclaims “why not?” So the conflux series was born, bravely leaping corporate and geographic barriers to jointly explore uncharted beeratory.  Cheers, fellow explorers, cheers.

Second in a series, this citrusy, smooth white india pale ale is a fortuitous meeting of Deschutes’ hop skills and Boulevard’s deft wheat touch.  What’s 1800 miles when a great beer is at stake?

Style: Belgian IPA
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.  All regions where Boulevard & Deschutes is distributed.

7.5% ABV

Deschutes Brewing will be distributed in Missouri soon. June — July launch date.
