2012 Hopslam: Draft 1/25, Bottles 2/8

Per Bells– Here is your Hopslam 2012 rundown:

Many of you have asked on a variety of platforms (FacebookTwitter,Google+ and via email) when Hopslam will be available. Until now, we could only say January, as important packaging and logistic issues were still being finalized.

Today, we have more details for you — actual release dates.

Please know that we have been working very hard for months to ensure this beer gets to as many of you, our fans, as soon as possible.

To make that happen, there were a number of important factors to consider.  One is the dry hopping process, which like Two Hearted Ale, limits how much we can produce at one time.  Another very important factor is the $52 million construction and expansion project that is ongoing here in Michigan.

Because of these and other factors, Hopslam will be available a little later than in the past.

Here are the release dates for Hopslam in 2012.

Hopslam on draft: Jan. 25

Hopslam in bottles: Feb. 8

We appreciate everyone’s continued support and patience as we transition into our new brewhouse and look forward to completing this project in 2012.

For more information on where Hopslam will be available in your area, please consult our Beer Finder and contact the distributor for your county. You can also contact your favorite bar, retailer or restaurant to inquire if and when they will have it as well.

Your Hopslam Heads Up: January, 2012

Get ready.  One of the worlds highly prized imperial IPAs makes another appearance in January.

Starting with six different hop varietals added to the brew kettle & culminating with a massive dry-hop addition of Simcoe hops, Bell’s Hopslam Ale possesses the most complex hopping schedule in the Bell’s repetoire. Selected specifically because of their aromatic qualities, these Pacific Northwest varieties contribute a pungent blend of grapefruit, stone fruit, and floral notes. A generous malt bill and a solid dollop of honey provide just enough body to keep the balance in check, resulting in a remarkably drinkable rendition of the Double India Pale Ale style.

Style: Imperial IPA with honey
Availability: 12oz bottles. Draft. Party Cans
Arrival: January, 2012

Bell’s Sues Over “Copper Bell” Logo

Bell’s Brewing is seeking a court order preventing Winery Exchange Inc (Novato, CA) to win a trademark over “Copper BELL” beer name.  Bell’s is also seeking a financial settlement.

Bell’s sent a “cease and desist letter” to Winery Exchange over the summer, asking for them to no longer use the “Bells” mark as it’s using creates brand confusion.

According to the suit the use of Bell’s on the cans:

...intended to and is likely to cause confusion, mistake or deception of the trade and public, and to cause the trade and the public to believe that such products are the same as Bell’s products or are authorized,”

The Bell’s logo by the Michigan brewery has been in use since 1985.  [AnnArbor]

Don’t Over Look Bell’s Amber With The New Label

Bell’s Brewing recently re-labeled their year round Amber Ale.  The brewery recently did a little artwork overhaul on the beer, now a lot different from it’s other brands.

Amber Ale deftly balances a mixture of toasted grain & light caramel notes with a range of floral, citrus and herbal hop notes, capped by a clean bitterness. This balance of flavors makes Amber Ale quite versatile as a food pairing option, not to mention being rather tasty in its own right. Whether serving as a jumping point to other styles or as a familiar standby, Amber Ale is central to the Bell’s portfolio.

Style: Amber Ale
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft. Year Round

Bell’s Sparking 750’s Hit Eccentric

Bell’s announced to day that Sparkling Ale just hit shelves at the Eccentric Cafe.  Last seen in 12oz bottles and draft more than a year ago.  No word on distribution of this beer again any time soon.   This is the first time this beer has been in large bottle format.

Conceived as an American interpretation of the classic Belgian Triple, Sparkling Ale combines notes of cloves, honey and dried fruits from a blend of two Abbey-style yeast strains with citrusy hops from the Pacific Northwest to offer a heady, fragrant mix. These aromas are enhanced by an effervescent carbonation, while a degree of residual malt sweetness serves to balance the complex array of flavors.

Style: Tripel
Currently Availability (As of 11/23/11) 750ml bombers. Cafe only

9% ABV
