Bud Competing With Miller & Heineken With Refillable Draft Mark System
Miller has one, Heineken has one. Home draft systems. Packaging you buy and take home (in larger formats, multiple liters of beer) to your fridge. The system keeps the beer pressurized so as not to go flat. Seriously, I’m sure you get the idea.
The Draftmark System will hold a full gallon of your yellow fizzies, and keep the beer fresh and pressured for 30 days. Now this info is a little raw, as AB will release some very official press releases as time approaches. There will also be one for Bass (See below.) These (Bud & Bass, Shock Top labels) are the artwork for the refills. Speculation: There will be 2 price points for the packaging – full kit, and the refill bottles.
LAHAINA, MAUI, HI – 19 October 2011 – Maui Brewing Co. (MBC) is proud to announce that a distribution agreement has been reached with Legends Ltd. Legends Ltd. is a Baltimore-based craft and specialty beer wholesaler, with distribution throughout Maryland and Washington, D.C., for more than 150 of the world’s most celebrated breweries. “I was impressed with Erin and Legends Ltd. as a distributor. They know how to treat craft beer and we felt comfortable entrusting our brand to them,” says Garrett Marrero of MBC.
Maryland is the tenth state where MBC’s Big Swell IPA, Bikini Blonde Lager, CoCoNut PorTeR and Mana Wheat can be found – now in addition to the states of Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, Nevada and Arizona. Maryland is also the only east-coast state with distribution of MBC products.
Erin Tyler of Legends Ltd. comments, “The response has been great! We have sold through our container with just a few remaining cases. Accounts have been asking for more. It is great to have another all canned brewery that makes such quality products.”
“Folks have been writing us for some time now, asking when the east coast will get our craft beer and I am happy to finally be able to bring some product out that way. Maui Brewing Co. is particularly proud to be the first Hawaiian-made beer to hit the Atlantic coast,” says Garrett Marrero. He continues, “Unlike other breweries, Maui Brewing Co. will not contract brew because we are dedicated to continue to produce a truly Hawaiian beer. You are guaranteed that all Maui Brewing Co. canned and draft beer received anywhere is made and packaged on-island.”
Maui Brewing Co. is one of only two truly local Hawaiian breweries, brewing and packaging 100% of product in the state. Maui Brewing Co. and Hawaii Nui (on the Big Island) are very proud to be wholly produced in Hawaii. Maui Brewing Co. has been recognized as Hawaii’s #1 craft beer since 2005 and the company has a strong commitment to the local economy, and the environment. MBC craft beers are packaged with the most eco-friendly materials. Although cans and bottles are both recyclable, bottles still break and pose a risk at beaches. The cans are manufactured on Oahu and designed by local Maui artists; they have the added bonus of protecting the beer in the best possible manner, protecting the product from both light and oxygen damage which can seriously compromise the taste. Plastic rings are dangerous to marine life and therefore, a unique, recyclable plastic carrying device is used to hold the products. The spent grain from beer production is donated to local ranchers for cattle feed and composting. Maui Brewing Co. is also very active in several local Hawaii charities.
Founder Garrett Marrero and his wife, Melanie, operate a 7-barrel brewpub at the Kahana location as well as a 25-barrel production brewery and canning facility in Lahaina. Maui Brewing Co. is a truly local beer as 100% of their products are made in Hawaii.
Odell’s New American Wild re-release is going to be a bit different than expected. The beer sat for too long in the tanks trying to bubble and bottles will not be released outside of the brewery. Not all of the bottles are properly carbonated and rather than risk someone purchasing a flat beer, they have decided to keep the Wild Ale in house as opposed to dumping all of it. If you are lucky enough to live close to the brewery, swing on by and give it a try, if the bottle is flat, they will dump it and open a new one.
Saint Arnold Brewing (Houston, TX) will finally be releasing their newest year round beer – Santo on October 20th This is great news following a small flavor issue with the first batch. (Burial at sea.) The beer wasn’t infected, just didn’t taste like Saint Arnold expected after moving from the pilot batches. Mash temperature and a small malt swap (Munich for Wheat) made everything all copasetic.
“When we set out to create Santo, the idea was to create the beer we always wished we would get when we ordered a dark Mexican lager to go with our enchiladas,” said Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer Brock Wagner. “While we were a little embarrassed about announcing that we decided to dump our first batch, we are happy with the decision, especially given the beer that we are ready to release now. Our brewing team has been thoroughly enjoying this new version. We haven’t waited for the release date to tap some for ourselves.”
Santo is a black Kölsch. All the fun of a Kölsch – just… darker…
Style: Kolsch Hops: Hallertau Hersbrucker Malts: 2 Row Pale, Pils Malted Barley, Munich Malt, Black Malt Yeast: Kolsch (Same in Lawnmower Ale)
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
4.6% ABV, 17 IBUs
Just last week, Saint Arnold released Pumpkinator 2011. Lots of excitement around that one.
Thanks to the support of Equity For Punks, 2012 will see a new brewery for Brewdog, plus new craft beer bars
Plans for a £6.5million ($10 million) – low carbon brewing facility in Aberdeenshire have been submitted to the UK planning commision- £1.5m ($2.3 million U.S.) coming from beer drinkers across the world.
Brewdog has grown over 200% in 2011, with demand on their beer rising. Contact brewing for these punks is not an option.
The brewery will be 8 miles down the road from the proposed site at Balmacassie instead of Pottorton. The costs to make the Pottorton site were millions more and 2 more years of prep. Balmacassie has the utilities in place, (plus room to grow) allowing the new brewery to be functional by October, 2012.
About The New Brewery: Will be energy efficient (heat recovery system, grey water treatment, etc.) 10 new 400 HL (340 barrel) fermenters will be added to Brewdog’s existing 27, for a grand total of 37 fermenters. There is room for many more. A new bottling line will be added. The Pottorton land is owned by Brewdog, and will be used to grow their own malt.
NEW BEER ANNOUNCEMENT! Soft fruits will be grown at Potterton for a new yearly “Estate” beer release.
Jobs: 25 added intially. 75 over time
Craft Beer Bars: BrewDog Newcastle will be at 16 Dean Street. Work to begin soon. Brewdog Camden will be open by 12/10/11. Those will join Brewdog Aberdeen, Brewdog Edinburgh, Brewdog Glasgow. A cash infusion of £1m ($1.5 mil US) into the bars will occur in 2012.
All this is made possible by Equity for Punks investments.
For those who still want to invest, visit www.brewdog.com/equityforpunks to buy part of BrewDog from £95
As of 11am today Troegs Hershey opened its doors to customers for the first time. The General Store opened selling cases of both Mad Elf and Scratch #50. The tasting room is still about a week from opening, so sorry, no sampling available at this time. Just in case you were wondering, the first customer in the door purchased a case of Scratch #50.
The Bruery’s Batch#50 homebrew contest winner = Grand Funk Aleroad, a gueuze.
Al Buck, a homebrewer and biologist, won the The Bruery’s Batch #50 homebrew con To put time in perpective- the brewery just did their Batch #300 con What has taken so long for this beer to appear? Recreating the beer. Gueuze is a blend of at least 2 vintages.
Nearly 3 years later, after brewing the beer once in 2009 and a second batch in 2010, after adding various strains of wild yeasts and bacteria to the barrels and the bottles, after blending multiple batches back together and well beyond our release of Batch #300, we’re finally prepared to release Batch #50 — Grand Funk Aleroad. Brewed in the classic Belgian Gueuze tradition of barrel aging and blending multiple vintages of lambic-style ale, Batch #50 is one of the most rewarding beers we’ve ever had the opportunity to brew.
Grand Funk Aleroad’s release date will be announced soon. [BrueryReserveSociety]
