These berries are sweeter than other strawberries. Touted to have a higher “brix” count, or higher nutrient content. This makes these strawberries of the highest quality, and red all the way through.
Release Party is planned for June 2nd,2011 at the Bridgeport Brewpub. Attendees will get to meet Ms. Stumptown aka Bernie Dexter.
The newest Lips Of Faith Beers from New Belgium are hitting shelves. (Or has depending on what part of the country you are in)
Kick – Fruit/Veg Beer, 8.5% ABV. Brewed with Elysian Brewing, Kick is slightly sour. Pumpkins, cranberries and a little oak aging stretches this flavor across the entire fall season. This puts NB’s & Elysian’s collaboration count to near 10. If you like slightly tart/sour beers with a touch of fruit, don’t miss this beer.
Clutch – American Stout ,9% ABV. Named for Maryland-based hard rock band. NB describes it best with: The sour stout has a pronounced bass line of dark chocolate, coffee and black malts that bridge the sourness of the dark wood ale for a fluid riff. Clutch is a roasty stout with a twinge of sour notes. A rockstar.
Gluten Free? Dogfish Has Beer For That This December
Can’t process Gluten? Then a lot of beers will end up making you feel worse than better. There are a few gluten free beers out there, but the taste is hit or miss.
Dogfish Head feels your pain. If you recall Tweason’Ale brew day in animated GIFs; that is the beer is destined for shelves. Drinkers at the Dogfish brewpub have asked about a gluten free offering for years.
“It seems as if lots of folks who have gluten-tolerance issues are pining for an interesting beer,” says Dogfish founder and president Sam Calagione. “While there are a few well-made examples that mirror traditional beer styles, there aren’t any off-centered offerings.”
Presenting an off centered beer free of evil gluten: Tweason’ale.
…we replaced the classic barley foundation of beer with a mild, high-maltose sorghum base. The hints of molasses and pit-fruit are balanced by vibrant strawberry notes and a unique complexity that comes with the addition of a malty buckwheat honey. We believe health-conscious beer drinkers and the millions of Americans who suffer from Celiac disease can cut back on gluten while relishing the distinction and drinkability of this very special brew.
Tweason’Ale will be the first brand new 4 pack offering in over 5 years by DFH. It will go into the brewery’s national distribution network.
Style: Fruit Beer (Gluten Free) Availability: 12oz/4pks, Draft. Will make a GABF 2011 appearance

(Grand Rapids, MI) — Founders Brewing Co. Vice President/Director of Marketing Dave Engbers announced today that his GrandRapids brewery will begin selling 750 milliliter bottles of specialty beers–dubbed the “Backstage Series”–this summer.
Engbers said part of the almost $7 million expansion to the brewery, which increased capacity from 28,000 barrels to nearly 50,000 barrels, includes a state of the art bottling line that allows them the flexibility to bottle and package 12oz as well as large format 750ml bottles.
The first “Backstage Series” release is sure to put a smile on the face of Founders fans. “We haven’t produced this product in over four years and people have been begging for it–so this is the perfect time to bring Blushing Monk back to market.” Blushing Monk is a decadent Belgian Raspberry Ale that was last produced in 2007, and is still highly sought after.
The company is not revealing the entire lineup, but Engbers said it would consist of many of the “popular one-offs” that have been offered in the taproom over the years and have become favorites. “I think part of what people love about Founders, besides our beer, is that we listen to what they are saying,” says President Mike Stevens. “With our new line, now we can offer them more of what they’ve been asking for.”
The company expects to release two or three in the series this year.
Founders Brewing Company opened their doors in 1997 with the vision of creating some of the most unique craft beer in the world. Today, Founders has a loyal following with several beers lauded nationally and internationally as award winners in their respective categories. In 2009, they were ranked the second fastest growingbrewery in the United States, and they are currently rated the second highest brewery in the world by ratebeer.com.
Founders Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Avenue SW in downtown Grand Rapids, is a proud member of the Michigan Brewers Guild. www.michiganbrewersguild.org.
As previously mentioned, Dogfish Head Brewing is going “minty” with Black & Red. Raspberries & mint come together in a new one-off, draft only concoction. The brewery mentioned this is being kegged today.
From Dogfish: Black & Red is a velvety smooth dry-minted stout with a serious fruit problem! The huge portion of heavily roasted grains brings a dry, chocolaty character which contrasts its sweet fruity full body. As you tilt your glass, youll notice that the black color you are perceiving is actually a very deep reddish hue and the rich creamy foam has a tinge of pink to it. Black & Red starts off roasted and warming with a robust mintiness from 100lbs of organic mint (from our friends at Washington’s Green Grocer) added to the secondary fermentation and finishes out sweet and smooth.

Fourth Generation Stumptown Tart Uses Strawberries from Willamette Valley Fruit Company
PORTLAND, Ore. – April 4, 2011 – BridgePort Brewing Company, Oregon’s oldest craft brewery is releasing its fourth generation Stumptown Tart on June 2. The new brew is a Strawberry Ale infused with 2,000 pounds of Oregon strawberries from local growers at Willamette Valley Fruit Company. Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton used Czech Saaz hops, most often found in pilsner or American Lager, to allow the taste of the Willamette Valley strawberries to shine through.
“Earlier this year I was able to sit down and talk with Jeff Dunn from Willamette Valley Fruit Company,” commented Brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “It became evident pretty quickly that using strawberries was the way to go, especially after hearing more about the varietal unique to Oregon and the Willamette Valley.”
Oregon strawberries contain a higher “brix” count, when compared to other growing regions across the world. The higher the brix reading on a strawberry indicates a higher nutrient content and, in turn, a sweeter berry. This unique quality also means that Oregon strawberries are red all the way through, adding more flavor, as opposed to water filler.
BridgePort will host a Stumptown Tart release party Thursday, June 2 at 5:30pm at the BridgePort BrewPub in the Pearl at 1313 NW Marshall St. Free and open to the public, attendees can be among the first to try free samples of the new brew while supplies last and purchase a limited-edition 22-ounce bottle of Stumptown Tart. Guests will also be given the opportunity to meet the Stumptown Tart herself, bottle model Bernie Dexter, as we celebrate another year of this tasty brew. Bernie will be at the BrewPub to sign bottles, posters, and provide festive eye candy to all in attendance.
