Stone Ripper Pale Ale: Canned dank headed your way (nationally)

Stone Ripper Can

Stone Ripper Pale Ale is the newest canned offering by the Escondido, California based brewery.

While the United States has created some of the boldest hops in the brewing world. Example: Cascade hops.  Austraila has put themselves on the hoppy world map with hops like Galaxy (first bred in 1994). Stone Ripper Pale Ale combines the Pacific Northwest with Aussie born hops in this new release.

It’s not often that Stone debuts a beer and does not immediately take it national. In this instance, Ripper was only available in only California until January, hitting national distribution at the start of 2017.

When it came to devising the concept of our next pale ale, we drew inspiration from the coastal locale of SoCal and the land down under. Sourcing classic Cascade hops from the Pacific Northwest and Australian Galaxy hops from… yes…Australia, we made a beer both lovers of resinous green buds and rip-curling surfers will find downright rad. At the same time, we stayed true to our San Diego love of pushing the hop boundaries of this style. While some might think it lingers on an edge far closer to IPA, with all the dry-hop flavor and aroma, it’s actually right in line with the current-day interpretation of a West Coast pale. Ours just so happens to have an Aussie accent that yields a juicy amount of grapefruit and passion fruit. So veg out or venture out. Either way, rip one open and taste for yourself this awesome golden amber nectar!

The brewery describes this beer as “Tropical and dank, flavors of orange and bright resiny hops”. Now that we’ve tried it, dank is a great description. The beer is very bright, very citrusy, clean, and well, dank. For those missing Levitation Ale, you’ll find a new home with Ripper. The alcohol by volume is higher, but once you taste it, you’ll see why. 2017 is looking great. (and hoppy.)

Stone Ripper Pale Ale is a 12 ounce can and draft release.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Cascade, Galaxy

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft
Debut: Early November, 2016. National: January, 2017.

Bell’s Oatsmobile Ale will be canned this spring

Bell's Oatsmobile Can 2

Bell’s Oatsmobile Ale, launched in April, will be canned in Spring, 2017. This was the first year-round addition since 2010.

Bell’s Oatsmobile Ale, as the name suggests, is brewed with malted oats. The brewery states that the oat addition lends the beer a body you don’t alway get in a session pale ale. The oats plus a dry-hop bill of Mosaic, Citra, and Amarillo makes what Bell’s hopes is a standout low alcohol by volume beer.

“This beer is unique. Aromatics may drive it, but the signature ingredient – oats – are what really makes this beer stand apart and also where the name comes from. It’s approachable and intriguing with a fun personality,” said Bell’s Vice President, Laura Bell.

Bell’s Oatsmobile Ale is currently available in 12 ounce bottles and draft across the brewery’s entire network. 12 ounce cans will be available in the coming spring.

Style: Pale Ale
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Year-Round
Debut: April, 2016
Cans: Spring, 2017

Pale ale & bourbon barrels meet in Ska Brewing Dementia

Ska Brewing Dementia

Ska Brewing Dementia officially released ahead of this holiday season. Take Euphoria, the Durango, Colorado based brewery’s winter pale ale, and add it to bourbon barrels. Out comes Dementia, a new toasty winter seasonal.

Those familiar with Euphoria are already familiar with a large portion of this beer. You’ll notice this beer is not as fresh and crisp as the year-rounder, thanks to the extra time it has spent in oak. The bourbon very much makes up that small transgression. Dementia is great beer to pair/ offset the richness of the pounds of holiday foods you are trying to finish off.

“Peach aromas, caramel sweetness and a touch of chocolate and toast provide a boozy and earthy essence. It is the perfect winter warmer.” -Thomas Larsen, Headbrewer.

Ska Brewing Dementia is available for a limited time in 22oz bottles within Ska Brewing’s largest markets; Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California and Illinois.

Style: Pale Ale (Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability:
Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Southern California and Illinois. Limited release.
Release:
November, 2016

Get wired. Shiner Cold Brew Coffee Ale celebrates 108 years of brewing

Shiner Cold Brew Coffee Ale

Hope you didn’t forget about Spoetzl Brewery. Those fine folks have something new for you. Meet Shiner Cold Brew Coffee Ale.

Spoetzl didn’t have to go far from his coffee meets beer collaboration. Chameleon Cold Brew, now sold nationally, is just up the road. Chameleon hand picked coffee beans that pair well with the beer’s roasty dark malt and Mt. Hood hops.

By now you’ve had cold brew coffee. Even coffee served nitro taps. Gradually emerging in the coffee scene is coffee that features the same key ingredient in brewing – hops. Lightly hopped cold brew coffee has become popular over the past year or so.

in our mind, Shiner Cold Brew Coffee Ale follows that same path. It drinks like a beer, as well as a hopped cold brew. Minus the astringency and bitterness that either can bring to your palate on their own. A clean finishing, lager-like coffee beer. Except it’s an ale..

Beer brewing is nothing new to Spoetzel. This release celebrates their 108th birthday. Shiner Cold Brew Coffee Ale can be found now in 12 ounce bottles, cans, 24 ounce bottles, and draft for a limited time.

Style: Pale Ale (w/ Coffee)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Bottles. 24oz Bottles, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: December, 2016

Founders Mosaic Promise will be canned in 2017

Founders Mosaic Promise will be promoted to a canned offering in 2017. The beer was originally an ArtPrize series offering in 2014. ArtPrize is the largest art competition in the world that is held in Grand Rapids, Michigan,

Mosaic Promise is brewed with a just one malt (Golden Promise), and  a single hop (Mosaic).

Mosaic Promise showcases two unique ingredients: Mosaic hops and Golden Promise malt. The versatility of the hop’s pleasing aroma and flavor characteristics and the traditional barley’s depth of flavor comprise this clean, rich, golden beer. We can brew complex beers with the best of them, but we recognize that there is also beauty in simplicity.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Mosaic
Malts: Golden Promise

Wicked Weed Napoleon Complex to be canned in 2017

Wicked Weed Napoleon Complex cans

Wicked Weed Napoleon Complex is a year-round offering by the Asheville, North Carolina based brewery. A pale ale with a big complex.

Wicked Weed Napoleon Complex departs from the standard pale ale, by taking a 5.2% alcohol by volume pale ale, and upping the hop bill. A small pale ale with a BIG hop presence. The beer has been available on draft for a little while before getting the nod for bottles.

RELATED: Wicked Weed expanding can production

In 2017, Napoleon Complex will be a part of the brewery’s expanded can lineup. Wicked Weed dabbled in cans with a handful of brewpub only cans. Next year, at least four of the brewery’s offerings will be canned and distributed.

Napoleon Complex is a small-statured pale ale with a larger-than-life attitude. Ignoring the industry standard of diminutive hop presence and mild manner, this pale ale will have most IPA’s contemplating their inadequacy. Little beer, big flavor, even bigger ego.

Wicked Weed Napoleon Complex is a bottle and draft offering. Expect cans in early 2017.

Style: Pale Ale
Availability: 11.2oz bottles, Draft. Year-round.
Release (Bottles & Draft): Late-January, 2016
Can Debut: 2017
