“Hands Down” this is Mother’s Brewing’s favorite pale ale

Mother's Brewing Hands Down Pale Ale

Springfield, Missouri’s Mother’s Brewing Hands Down Pale Ale hits shelves this week; a new year-round release.

“A supremely drinkable pale ale that doesn’t skimp on hop flavor” is how Mother’s describes this new beer. This hazy, New England Style pale ale is heavily dry-hopped for a burst of hop flavor, while maintaining a low finishing bitterness.

Intensive dry-hopping provides juicy citrus and berry hop flavor with restrained bitterness. Light, bright, and crisp, this is Hands Down your Mother’s favorite pale ale.

Mother’s suggests drinking Hands Down with smoked ribs with potato salad, spicy pad thai, salmon and mango salsa, and key lime pie. Or if you’re like us a Beer Street Journal – anything you have in the pantry.

Mother’s Brewing Hand’s Down Pale Ale is available year-round in 12-ounce bottles and draft.

Style: Pale Ale
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Late August 2018

Elysian teams up with epic glam rockers Def Leppard

Elysian Def Leppard Pale Ale

Elysian Brewing and legendary band Def Leppard have a new musically inspired beer. Def Leppard Pale Ale debuts this summer.

The band is touring with another epic band Journey this summer, starting with Hartford, Connecticut on May 21st. Seattle, Washington is no stranger to music (or beer for that matter). In honor of Def Leppard’s Sheffield, England origin, the duo created an English-style pale ale brewed with English malts, and American-grown Pacific Northwest hops.

Def Leppard Pale is what happens when a mega British rock band collides with an American craft brewery. Both fanatics of their craft, Def Leppard and Elysian are excited to blend their worlds together, music and beer.

16-ounce cans of Elysian Def Leppard Pale Ale will be available in select tour cities starting on the band’s second stop on May 23rd in Albany, New York. The can design is a tribute to the 30th Anniversary of Def Leppard’s Hysteria album, known for epic songs like “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Love Bites”.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Chinook, Magnum
Malts: 2 Row, Munich, Carahell, Acidulated

Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft

Mosaic & Citra hops are alive & well in Mother’s Brewing Trop Top

Mother's Brewing Trop Top

Mother’s Brewing Trop Top Pale Ale hits shelves this week.

Tropical hops flavors are very hot in craft beer right now. You can thank hops like Citra and Mosaic for that. Incidentally, that duo is responsible for Mother’s Brewing Trop Hop.

The “tropical” pale ale is heavily hopped with Citra and Mosaic hops in both the whirlpool as well as in the dry-hop.

This refreshing pale has a big fruity hop punch with a very restrained bitterness. The malt body is light with a mild sweetness to round out the juicy, tropical fruity pale ale.

Mother’s Brewing Trop Top Pale Ale is available in 12-ounce bottles and draft as a seasonal release.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Citra, Mosaic

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.

Full Sail Session Twist brings a little citrus into winter

Full Sail Session Twist

Full Sail Session Twist brings a touch of citrus into the colder months.

Hood River, Oregon’s Full Sail Brewing has taken the inspiration that created Session Lager and turned it into a full series of releases over the past few years. Creations have included everything from an IPA to a Mexican Lager, plus fruit variants like Watermelon Wheat and Black Cherry. As winter presses on, the brewery looks to put a little citrus in these dark days, with Full Sail Session Twist.

Session Twist is lightly hopped with Cascade, plus a “twist” of tangerine. Each sip might be the brightest part of drinking in the cold.

“We wanted the tangerine to come through in this lightly hopped pale ale. A hint of Cascade hops gives Session Tangerine Twist a natural citrus character and a twist of lemon rounds it out. Tangy aromas of citrus zest and tangerine burst from this golden, refreshing ale. –  Full Sail Brewmaster Greg Doss

Session Lager launched 12 years ago and has since taken home more than 100 medals in various competitions. 40 of those were gold.

Full Sail Session Twist is available in 11-ounce stubby bottles and draft through April 2018.

Style: Pale Ale (w/ Tangerine)
Availability: 11oz Bottles, Draft. Jan-April.
Debut: Late January 2018

5.2% ABV, 20 IBUs

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo is back in plaid

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo Bottles

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo, a pale ale brewed with spruce tips, returns to the brewery’s seasonal lineup. This beer is a collaboration with Pennsylvania clothing manufacturer, Woolrich.

Before you get to know the beer, get to know the name. The “Pennsylvania Tuxedo” is the stylish descriptor given to the red and black hunting outfits popularized by Woolrich, dating back to the late 1800’s. All the more reason this beer is a collaboration with Pennsylvania clothing manufacturer, Woolrich.

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo has made an appearance before, released on tap at the brewpub in Rehoboth Beach in 2014. In 2015, Tuxedo was bottled for the first time as well, destined for a larger Dogfish Head market.

“Pennsylvania Tuxedo smells like Paul Bunyan’s cologne and tastes like tongue-kissing Mother Nature, and it’s a labor of love that we hope you’ll share with friends this winter.” Brewery founder Sam Calagione

When you brew an outdoorsy collaboration, you brew it with spruce tips, right? The brewery’s Sam Calagione mentions in the video below where John Rich almost died from falling off the rafters at a barn raising after drinking too much of his own spruce beer.

Dogfish Head Pennsylvania Tuxedo is available once again in 12-ounce bottles and draft in November 2016.

Style: Pale Ale (w/ Spruce Tips)
Availability: Bottles, Draft.
Latest Return: October 2017

8.5 ABV

Tin Roof Brewing releases Voodoo Pale Ale

Tin Roof Brewing releases Voodoo

Tin Roof Brewing releases Voodoo Pale Ale just in time for their new Baton Rouge Funk Fest. Tin Roof, based in Baton Rouge, dubs Voodoo Pale Ale as “their new flagship,” and describes this new release as:

“…A heavily dry-hopped American Pale Ale, which relies on malted and flaked oats to enhance the tropical and fruit flavors provided by the hops.”

Expect a fruit and pine forward flavor and aroma from the inclusion of Citra, Simcoe, and Waimea hops. The heavy dry-hopping as well as use of oats and wheat give the beer a naturally hazy appearance.

The first time you will be able to try Voodoo Pale Ale is at The Baton Rouge Funk Fest, an all day free concert from 1:30 to 7:30 on May 13th at the brewery.

Voodoo Pale Ale will be available in 12oz cans within Tin Roof distribution following its release.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Citra, Simcoe, Waimea
