Brooklyn Debuts Fiat Lux [Video]

Brooklyn Brewing adds to the Brewmasters Reserve Series with Fiat Lux. The name means “Let There Be Light.”  The name is less religious and more “let the be the light of summer.”

Let there be beaches, let there be blankets laid out on grass, let there be beer gardens, let there be barbecues, let there be outdoor concerts, let there be good beer everywhere, great people to drink it with, and time to enjoy it. Yeah, we thought you’d be down with that too. Brooklyn Fiat Lux is great with everything you’re cooking and eating this summer (it’s not that great with beef stew… but you’re not eating beef stew) from barbecue to burgers, from crawfish to salmon. And it’s mighty nice with goat cheese. Have a great summer, folks. And yes, we admit it — we really do love walking into places, declaring “Fiat Lux!” and making it so.
Lux is based on a witbier recipe, brewed with Canadian and American malts and un-malted white winter wheat. Then Lux is spiced with coriander and lime peel.

Style: Witbier (Coriander, Lime Peel)
Availability: Draft only

“As warm weather starts to take hold across the country, people want light and refreshing beverages to keep them cool all summer long,” said Mike Sundet, vice president, Bud Light.  “This is our take on the traditional margarita.  Beer drinkers were already mixing Bud Light Lime into margaritas to create ‘beer ritas’; Lime-a-Rita just adds a new level of convenience by providing a beverage with the perfect balance of flavors.”

Anheuser-Busch Testing Lime-A-Rita

Bud Light Lime-A-RitaAnheuser-Busch is currently in the early stages of testing  a variant of Bud Light Lime dubbed – Lime-A-Rita.  Cans of “Test Beer L” have recently been circulated within the company according to a local brewery rep.

From what I gather, Lime-A-Rita is an attempt to grow/appeal to a growing market of alco-pop drinkers (example FourLoko.)  Initial interpretations from those who have tasted it say the flavor is pretty close to an actual margarita. (Salt not included.)

No launch date has been announced.

Cigar City El Murcielago For The “Year Of The Bat”

Cigar CIty El Murcielago105 days ago, Cigar City Brewing mentioned they were tequila barrel aging Double Cream Ale.  The result is El Murcielago (the bat).  They didn’t stop at tequila aging. They through in lime peel and cumin for good measure.

The bat (or “el murcielago”) had a very important role in the making of this beer. Our winged furry friends were responsible for the pollination of blue agave plants, which of course leads to tequila. That tequila was aged in barrels, and those barrels were eventually emptied and found their way to our brewery. We then Filled those barrels with a high gravity double cream ale. And to give it even more oT a southwestern kick, we added some cumin and lime peel as well. El murcielago, we tip our hat to you. 2011-2012 has been designated by the United Nations as the Year of the Bat. Go to www.batcon.org for more information about supporting these awesome flying guys.

Style: Cream Ale (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750ml bottles
Arrival: TBA
