SweetWater Puts Some Strange In A Bottle
Yeah, it was delayed. A brewery undergoing an expansion like SweetWater Brewing in Atlanta, Georgia can expect some growing pains. The newest release in the brewery’s Dank Tank Series (and first brew in the top secret, yet to be unveiled to the public) brewhouse has been bottled.
Soon you’ll get Some Strange, a black IPA. Having had a taste off the tanks this week, know this – you are in for a treat. Imagine SweetWater IPA (bright and citrusy) with a dark/coffee complexity. Yeah- I thought you’d like that.

Lonerider Adds to Most Wanted Series
Meet Cowboy in Black – a Black IPA and the newest addition to Lonerider’s Most Wanted Series. The beer will be launched on April 20, 2013 in limited quantities.
“The inky night considers Cowboy In Black its friend. He is also our interpretation of the cult followed Black IPA style. A precarious balance of bitter hops and roasted malts allows you to taste beer’s most aggressive characters all in one very well balanced and tasty brew!”

Red Brick’s Black-Eye Rye Arrives in April
Red Brick Brewing (Atlanta, GA) preps for the 6th release in the Brick Mason Series– Black-Eye Rye. The first black IPA release from the brewery, and the first time making a rye beer.
Black-Eye Rye, the 6th release from Red Brick’s Brick Mason series, is an American-Style India Black Ale brewed with rye. Inspired by one of our favorite beer styles, it is black in color without the heavy chocolate or roasted characteristics that are present in most dark ales. We feature Cascade, Chinook and Citra hops for citrus and piney flavors and aromas. This beer carries a hoppy punch, like a Double IPA with a healthy addition of rye for added complexity.

Bear Republic Racer 5 Comes to the Dark Side
Bear Republic has announced that they will be brewing a second, darker version of the popular Racer 5 IPA. Black Racer, a black IPA, will be bottled and released in select markets during the first week of April.
“We feel that we have put our California spin on this Pacific Northwest style, and have the hardware to prove its place among the great.”

Boulevard on Grainstorm Black Rye IPA [VIDEO]
After a day of enjoying a few others’ brews, Boulevard (Kansas City, MO) has created a beer that they think sums up everything they want in a Black Rye IPA. Introducing Grainstorm, brewed with Simcoe and Amarillo hops, roasted wheat malt for color, and then dry hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and Citra hops.

Green Flash Brewing’s Embarks on a Hop Odyssey
Green Flash Brewing (San Diego, CA) will begin their hoppy journey Hop Odyssey series in just a few short weeks. Aligning with their west coast hop-forward lineup, the Hop Odyssey series will feature 6 diverse hop-centric beers on tap only over the course of the year.
“By utilizing new hop varietals coming out of the Hop Breading Company in Yakima, WA as well as the previously developed hops, we have the opportunity to be innovative while we continue to re-brew some of our favorite hoppy recipes from the past.”
The first of which, their black IPA, is expected to launch in February. This pitch black beer appears to be a malty stout but don’t be fooled – at 85 IBUs this beer is anything but. This beer will feature hops from the Pacific Northwest giving it a piney and floral aroma and taste.
Other beers in this series include an Imperial Red Rye IPA, a Session IPA, and more. All Hop Odyssey series beers will be available in kegs in the 37 states Green Flash distributes.

Heavy Seas Black Cannon 2013 Ships
Heavy Seas Brewing (Baltimore, MD) has just shipped Black Cannon. Cannon is the brewery’s black IPA, loosely modeled after Loose Cannon. Roasted malts give Black Cannon that roasty malt flavor.
