Brewed with the Saison and farmhouse ales of Belgium in mind, we added fresh Raspberries and Brettanomyces to a wine barrel and aged the Saison base for 9 months.
Widmer’s Kill Devil Features Palm Sugar, Molasses, & Rum
Coming this Spring – An insanely good sounding Widmer BrothersKill Devil Brown Ale. 90% of this ale is brewed with palm sugar and molasses, aged in rum barrels. 10% is barreled straight brown ale. The Brother’s Reserve is a series of 22oz bombers (presented in a nice box) that ranges from barleywines, braggots, wheat ales and more. Kill Devil is the 6th release.
Sweet barbados and blackstrap molasses provide touches of toasted sugar, black licorice, and blackened toffee to this brown ale while the palms sugars invite notes of subtle sweetness. Conditioned in Puerto Rican rum barrels, the vanilla and oak flavors and aromas integrate with the calypso hop’s soft tropical and stone fruit aromas.
Style: Brown Ale (Barrel Aged, Rum) Availability: 22oz bombers. Limited Draft.

Upland’s latest adventure into the world of sour brewing, Gilgamesh, is a beer fit for the legendary king of Uruk himself. This Flanders Red style beer is our strongest sour ale, at 10.5% ABV, and possesses a fruity Belgian yeast character, creamy mouthfeel contributed by flaked maize, tart highlights produced by wild microorganisms, and hints of oak texture from slightly neutral bourbon barrel aging.
Gilgamesh won the gold medal in its category and runner up for Best in Show at Chicago’s Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beers in November 2011.
Gilgamesh is a Sumerian god that ruled for 126 years, starting in 2500 B.C. Upland started the sour program in 2006 with just 4 barrels. Today they make 11 sour ales.
