Get Down with 2013 Funky Jewbelation

It’s about the time of year again! Funky Jewbelation from Shmaltz Brewing returns for 2013 featuring a blend of six ales and lagers from the Shmaltz beer lineup aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels, and hustles in at 9.4% ABV.

This year’s version blends the following:

  • Jewbelation 15 – aged seven and ten months
  • Origin Pomegranate Strong Ale – aged 11 months
  • Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A. – aged 12 months
  • Messiah Nut Brown Ale – aged 6 months
  • Coney Island Lager – aged 12 months
  • Albino Python – aged 3 months
This year’s barrel math comes out to 55% bourbon barrels and 45% whiskey barrels.
Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged)

14,000 Bottles of Surly Pentagram Next Week

Surly Brewing’s Pentagram arrives next week. Pentagram is an American wild ale aged in wine barrels. Pentagram made an appearance at the Great American Beer Fest last fall, and brewer Todd Haug mentioned it will all but become a yearly release.

100% Brettanomyces Dark beer fermented stainless and aged in used red wine barrels. “Brett” is a unique yeast strain that produces flavors that would be considered offensive if  they were not intentional. Flavors of sour  cherry, tobacco, oak and classic “Brett” barnyard funkbalanced by dark munich mall chewiness.

14,000 bottles will be dispersed into Surly markets next week. Party this Sunday. This is your heads up.

Sprecher Hard Root Beer Production Slowed

Sprecher’s Hard Root Beer (aka root beer for adults) will be a Sprecher staple. Demand of this new release will be limited to local markets due to demand.

…the first few batches will be limited relative to the interested markets. Next week we bottle the second batch — a total of 4,000 cases — which will again be distributed primarily in metro Milwaukee and Madison.

Sprecher Brewing has merged two or their popular products and created Bootlegger’s Hard Root Beer, a fermented root beer combining traditional root beer flavors with bourbon and oak.
