The latest edition in Stone Brewing’ s Vertical Epic series has arrived. Each year through 12.12.12, Stone is releasing a different beer, meant to be kept until sometime after 12.12.12. Here’s this year’s description-
This is a new release that required doing my homework. It just recently became available not only in Georgia, but the United States. It is a collaboration between Vanberg & Dewulf (Belgian beer importers) and Schelde Brouwerij (Meer, Belgium). Looking into Vanberg & Dewulf’s website yielded the story on this beer:
“What happens when America’s original importer of Belgian artisan ales pairs up with one of Belgium’s most dynamic renegade microbreweries?
You get the next logical step in Belgo-American cross-fertilization – Vanberg & DeWulf’s Hop Ruiter. This 8% ABV bottle-conditioned strong golden ale combines Belgian appreciation for aromatic esters with the American love of hops. The balanced blend of the two is being simultaneously launched in the US and the Low Countries. Based on early response we think it is going to be a Belgo-American classic.

.You’ve probably seen Smuttynose Brewing’s brown ale – “Old Brown Dog.” This release expands on the brown dog a beloved member of the brewery. Smuttynose gives you some info:
Beer Rundown (Known Ingredients) Style: Old Ale Hops: Liberty, Crystal Malts: Pilsner Malt, Pale Ale Malt, Crystal 60L, Brown Malt, Special B
Taste Expecations: Dark malts, molasses and brown sugar. Some alcohol warming in finish. A good fall/winter brew. There are some notes of age, typical of an Old Ale.
Availability: 22oz Bombers. Draft. Small Batch seasonal brew.
Cellar? Yes. Old Ales can be cellared, and benefit from extended cellaring. Smuttynose mentions the ale will mellow and age gracefully.
