Weyerbacher Up To “R” in the NATO Phonetic

Weyerbacher Up To "R" in the NATO PhoneticWeyerbacher Brewing has a small batch of beers they call the “Brewmasters Select.”  Chris Wilson and brewing team at Weyerbacher experiment with different styles each time, and of course the name is different with each brew.  Fun fact: the brewery uses the NATO phonetic alphabet. You’ve heard it before – the first letter of the word is the letter you are using i.e. Alpha, Bravo, Charlie etc….

August is also going to bring our next Brewer’s Select Beer, Romeo. We’re going to go Belgian with this one. It has not been bottled at the time I’m writing this, but I can tell that it will be an ~8.5% Belgian Red Ale. We are looking at around 35 IBUs and a nice dose of Hallertuaer and Saaz in the finish. Maybe you should consider a gift for your mama after what Crimson made you do.

Style: Belgian Strong Ale
Availability: 12oz bottles.
Arrival: August, 2011

8.5% ABV

Weyerbacher Rebranding In 2011

Weyerbacher Brewing (Easton, PA) makes great beer.  Even though what is inside the bottle is amazing, the look of the label on the outside was over due for a little sprucing up.  Looks like the good people of Weyerbacher decided it now is the time.

As previously mentioned, Blasphemy – a big quadrupel by Weyerbacher is coming back from a few year hiatus.  The new label appears on the left, and gives a preview of whats to come.

From Weyerbacher:
Yes, you’ve been telling us for years that we needed it and we’re finally going to do it! Dan, Chris & Chris began work on the project a few months ago with consulting/design firm SSM Creative. A complete redesign of the Weyerbacher brand including new logo, packaging of all types, POS, etc. will finally be coming later this year. Thanks for all of your input and ideas over the years, we’re finally able to put this redesign in motion.

So, with that be on the lookout for an all new Weyerbacher Brewing in 2011.

Weyerbacher Winter Ale

Weyerbacher’s Winter Ale is a winter warmer in their seasonal lineup. (Easton, PA)  Brewed for well over a decade, this beer one a silver in the World Beer Cup.  They have an interesting history of winter warmers to add to your drinkertainment.

From Weyerbacher:
Although winter ales predate history, they are believed to have their origin in the pagan celebrations of winter solstice. Later, when monasteries produced the local brew, winter ales were made each year to commemorate the birth of Christ. Back then, winter ales were brewed full-bodied as a source of nutrition for the upcoming winter months. Today, winter ales are typified by their seasonality, their rich, malty flavors and by their deep, dark coloration.

Style: Winter Warmer

Taste Expectations: Toasted/Roasted malts.  Semi sweet.  Nutty w/ a touch of caramel.  Some spice.  Bit of dark fruit.

Availability: 12oz/6pks. Draft.  Nov-Jan. Seasonal.

5.6% ABV
