MEET THE BREWER! Patrick Rue at The Porter!

Patrick Rue, co-founder of The Bruery based in Placienta, California will be in Atlanta starting next weekend for a rare few appearances in Atlanta.  I mentioned the beer dinner at Brickstore Pub.  If you can’t make the beer dinner be sure to head to The Porter Beer Bar in little 5 points.  On Sunday, February 21st at 6:30 pm Patrick Rue will be at the Porter to meet and greet fellow drinkers.  In addition to his appearance, The Porter will be tapping the following —

Two Turtle Doves — 12%, Belgian Dark Ale.  Two Turtle Doves is the second edition of The Bruery’s Christmas Ales.  (Partridge in a Pear Tree being the first.)   Doves touts ingredients such as pecans and cocoa nibs.   Flavors are nutty and chocolatey.  Suitable for aging 10 years (after the release of 12 Drummers, Drumming.)

Rugbrod — 8%, Dark Rye Ale.  This beer is influenced by Danish rye bread “Rugbrod” (pronounced roogbrood.)  Very malty, as these beers are popular around Christmas in Demark.  According The Bruery it’s a blend of Rye and JuleByrg beer.  (Danish strong Christmas Ale.) Expect bready, caramel malts.

Mischief — Belgian Strong Ale, 8.5% ABV.  Limited seasonal release.  Golden ale dry hopped with American hops.  Complex, hoppy, fruity.

Reminder, all offerings by The Bruery are unfiltered, and unpasteurized.

Quick Bruery Bio —

Founded out of the love of homebrewing, The Bruery basically started on a stove. Patrick Rue, his brother Chris and wife Rachel created an “amber” ale while Patrick was a first year law student. Over time the love of brewing couldn’t be held back any longer, and their life long goal was set.

The name “Bruery” is a meld of the word brewery with the family name “Rue.” All beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized. All carbonation is through bottle conditioning through secondary fermentation.

The Bruery adds 3 more!

bruery new releaseIn early October, The Bruery (Placentia, CA) launched in Atlanta.  This family run brewery (last name Rue — to make Bruery) turned out to be well received.   The first offerings here were Saison Rue, Orchard White, and Autumn Maple.  Those looking for Autumn Maple for Thanksgiving were too late, it had come and gone.

Want more? Here are three more offerings for your tastebuds.  One brew is particularly special for Christmas.  Lets start with the lowest ABV and work up.

Hottenroth — 3.1% ABV, Berliner Weisse.  Belgian Style Tart Wheat Ale.  Berliner Weisse is a unique style that hails from Berlin, Germany and is a sour wheat ale.  Berliner Weisse was first brewed in northern Germany in the early 16th century and was extremely popular.   At one point it was produced by 650+ breweries.   Now, the Berliner Weisse style is so protected in Germany, only 2 breweries can make it.  Ok, its barely more alcoholic than water, but don’t let that stop you.  Flavor is everything, and the style isn’t easy to come by.  This American rendition was brewed in memory of Patrick Rue’s grandparents Fred & Sarah Hottenroth.  (7.99, Hop City)

(8.99, Hop City)

Flavors are nutty and chocolaty.  Suitable for aging 10 years (after the release of 12 Drummers, Drumming.)  (10.99, Hop City)

Available in 750 ml champagne style bottles.  Hop City is the first to receive.  Green’s is reported to have it, but I have not seen it yet.  Tower and Total Wine unverified arrival dates.

Atlanta! Meet , The Bruery. Launching today in Atlanta, The Bruery hails from Placentia, CA.

The name “Bruery” is a meld of the word brewery with the family name “Rue.” All beers are unfiltered and unpasteurized. All carbonation is through bottle conditioning through secondary fermentation.

Sidebar – Primary fermentation is marked by the rapid release of carbon dioxide. Sugars are converted to alcohol and CO2. In secondary fermentation, yeast removes unwanted compounds like acetylaldehyde, diacetyl, and sulphur. (For those biology folks out there.) This is taking place in the bottle where it carbonates the beer. In some instances you will see the residual yeast sediment on the bottom of the bottle.

The Bruery seeks out unique ingredients in which to brew, creating new definitions of beer.

Now onto the beers. Hop City starting today is selling 3 beers from their lineup.

Saison Rue — 8.5% ABV, Belgian/French Farmhouse Ale. Malted Rye, spicy. Citrus hops, Wild Yeast. Brewed intermittently year round. Excellent fresh, and aged. $10.49
Orchard White — 5.7% ABV, Belgian Wit. Coriander, Citrus, Lavender. Rolled Oats. Fruit yeast strain. $7.49
Autumn Maple — 10%, ABV, Belgian Brown Ale. 17lbs yams per barrel. Spin off of Pumpkin style ales. Brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, vanilla, molasses, & maple syrup. Fermented with Belgian yeast strain. $9.99

There are more on the way, but this is a great start. Welcome to Atlanta — The Bruery!
