COMING SOON: Terrapin Double Feature

The second of four volumes in Terrapin’s Georgia Theatre benefit series is headed to shelves.  The second release is called “Double Feature” and is a  Belgian Double Ale.

Description from Spike, brewer at Terrapin

Dubbel Feature “Belgian Style Dubbel” is the second of four beers in Terrapin’s Georgia Theatre Sessions. It is brewed with 100% Belgian Malts, an authentic Trappist yeast and Golding and Hersbrucker hops. This deep caramel colored brew has a delicate balance between sweet malt, estery yeast, a subtle bitterness and mellow alcoholic warmth. All the characteristics of a fine Trappist Ale.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Georgia Historic Trust for Historic Preservation Fund to rebuild the Georgia Theatre. To make things even more interesting, there is one Golden Ticket hidden among each of the Georgia Theatre Sessions brews. This means that four lucky winners will receive a lifetime pass to the new Theatre.

I hope that you are the lucky winner!

Cheers! – Spike

Hops – Golding, Hallertau Hersbrucker

Malts – Belgian Pilsner, Belgian Munich, Belgian Aromatic, Belgian Biscuit, Belgian Crystal 45, Belgian Special B

Sugars – Belgian Candi Syrup Dark, Belgian Amber Candy

Availability – 22oz Bottles, hand numbered and boxed.  Rare casks will surface at release parties… more to follow.

COMING SOON: Reunion Beer 2010

The fourth edition of Reunion Beer is headed to shelves.  While this is the 4th brew of Reunion, this is Terrapin’s 2nd year being involved in the project.

What is Reunion?  Virgina McLean, partner in the Reunion project, died from complications from multiple myeloma in June, 2007.   She had a fantastic quote “Cancer can cause my death, but it can only take my life if I give it that.” Virginia is the inspiration for the Reunion project, a way to drink good beer and raise money for the Institute for & Bone Cancer Research.  100% of the proceeds go straight to IMBCR. (www.imbcr.org)  This Institute works to prolong the life of individuals suffering from the currently incurable form of bone cancer, and hopes to one day find a cure. This institute does not have a huge operating budget — and proceeds from this Reunion project really make a difference.

Reunion 2010 is Belgian style scotch ale.   It’s brewed with 5 different malts, and hopped with Kent Golding.  A Trappist yeast was used on a scotch ale recipe… thus Belgian style scotch ale.

From the label –

” This year’s beer is Belgian-style Scotch Ale  an nod to Virginia’s Scottish heritage.  The beer boasts a deep amber color with a rich malt palate and subdued hop notes in the finish.. We used an authentic Trappist Belgian yeast strain for complexity and its brewed to an orginal gravity of 1078 and has 30 units of bitterness.  Many thanks to all those who have supported this project and helped us honor Virginia’s memory.  Cheers  Pete & Alan”

Availability – July 2010.  22oz Bottles and Draft.  Draft will be featured at Taco Mac restaurants.  Release party dates will be happening in Atlanta.  More to follow…

8.5% ABV

SBS Imports (www.sbs-imports.com) is a proud partner in the project also.  SBS is an importers of beers and ciders like Aspall and De Proef.

Terrapin’s Boom ShakaLager Arrives!

The next installment of Terrapin’s Side Project Series – Boom Shakalager has hit shelves!

QUICK REVIEW:

Side Project #11 dubbed “Boom ShakaLager” is a Bavarian style imperial lager.  Brewed with Bavarian yeast of course — expect German hops and malts also.  Estimated release date — June, but there a lot more info to come before that happens.  It’s rare to see a lager from Terrapin, as the label explains –

“Boom ShakaLager is the next installment in Terrapin’s “Side Project” series of beers. This Imperial Lager is made exclusively with German malts, German hops and a true Bavarian lager yeast strain.  While 99% of the beers brewed at Terrapin are ales, we figured we should show some love to the lager style as well. Not that this off-beat, big beer is going to be brewed to a traditional style or anything.”

Availability — 22oz bombers & draft. 1 time release.

COMING SOON: Terrapin SP#11 Boom ShakaLager
