Terrapin “Sound Czech” Details

I just received details about Terrapin’s Georgia Theatre Sessions Volume #3 “Sound Czech.”   As you hopefully know by now, these beers benefit the rebuild of the famed and beloved Georgia Theatre taken by fire last year.

Session 3 is a pilsner dubbed “Sound Czech” highlighting the landmark becoming the premiere music venue in Athens, Georgia.

Beer Rundown:

Hops: Czech Saaz

Malts: Floor Malted Pilsner Malt

Yeast: Czech Pilsner (lager)

Commerical Description:

“Sound Czech Pilsner” is brewed using floor malted Bohemian spring barley for an authentic Pilsner taste. By using 100% Czech Saaz hops and authentic lager yeast strain from the Southern Czech Republic, this all malt lager will even quench “The King of Beers Taste Buds”

Availability: 22oz Bombers, hand numbered & boxed.  1 lucky box will contain the “golden ticket” giving the bearer and a guest free admission to the rebuilt GA Theatre for life!

Left Hand / Terrapin “Oxymoron” Details!

More info has been released on Terrapin Brewing / Left Hand Brewing’s Midnight Project # 3 “Oxymoron.” As you might know by now, Oxymoron follows the extremely popular and now nearly completely extinct Depth Charge.

This years edition of the Midnight Project Series is brewed in Longmont, Colorado on site at Left Hand. Here is the info straight from Left Hand –

Hops: Magnum, Northern Brewer, Perle, Tradition, Spalter Select, Hersbrucker

Dry Hopped: Tradition, Spalter Select, Hersbrucker

Malt: Weyermann Pale Ale, Munich I and CaraAmber

Yeast: Left Hand Proprietary Lager strain 33

Production notes: We did a 4 step-infusion mash with a single decoction. To the decoction we added some Northern Brewer Hops. The beer was lagered for 4 weeks prior to filtering and packaging.

This beer has already made a small debut at Craft Lager Festival in Manitou Springs, Colorado.  It was well received.

7.2% ABV

65 IBU’s

Arrival: Last week of August, 2010.  Draft in September.

Made with 100% Maris Otter malt to back up the barrage of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma, this beast knows no boundaries. With all of this hoppy goodness packed into one beer, we wouldn’t have called it by any other name.

RARE BEER: Terrapin’s Big Sloppy Monster!

One of the more rare offerings by Terrapin Brewing ( Athens, GA) is their “Big Sloppy Monster.”  Big Sloppy is actually their imperial red ale – “Big Hoppy Monster” aged about 14 months in Jack Daniels barrels.

This keg is tapping at Leon’s Full Service in Decatur, GA with 13 other offerings by Terrapin including their newest Side Project #13 “Hopzilla” Double IPA.

Other offerings include Monks’s Revenge, Boom Shakalager, Hopsecutioner, Rye Pale, Hop Karma, Gamma Ray, Reunion 2010, Rye Squared, Big Hoppy Monster 2009, Golden Ale.

RUMOR: Substance Abuse – I.E. Wake & Bake in Jack Daniel’s will also make an appearance!

Terrapin GA Theatre Sessions #3

Terrapin  just released Session #2 of the Georgia Theatre Sessions – Double Feature.  It’s on shelves now.  Double Feature is a Belgian dubbel paying homage to the days when the Georgia Theatre was a a movie theater.

Terrapin has informed me that it’s not too early to look at Session #3 – Sound Czech.  Now, take this from someone who has spent a fair amount of time at the Georgia Theatre this is what I know the Theatre for the most.  Music.  I’ve seen quite a few bands there during my time at UGA.  An awesome band and few beers at the Georgia Theatre made for a pretty great Friday night.  Some big name bands have played there, including B-52’s, R.E.M., The Police, B.B. King, and Widespread Panic.  This release commemorates its rich musical history as it looks forward to the day music is heard within it’s walls again.  I can’t wait to go back.

Sound Czech is what you think it is – a Czech pilsner.  What makes it a Czech Pilsner?  It’s where the style was invented.  Pilsners orignated in 1800’s in Pilsen, Bohemia also known as Plzeň a city in western Bohemia in the Czech Republic.  Head brewer Spike hasn’t completed his writeup sheet on this beer yet so all the details aren’t known.  More on ingredients when the beer gets closer to shipping.

Evening festivities include a special unveiling of So Fresh and So Green, Green (a fresh hopped beer), six casks, the harvesting of the Terrapin’s hop garden, a harvest showcase of local produce, education from hop experts, and many other hopped up beer offerings! All ages are welcome but only those 21 or over with valid ID will be allowed to drink our hoppy offerings.”
