Coming Up From Samuel Adams: Little White Rye

As of late, many of these new Samuel Adams offerings appear in mixed packs. Little White Ryeis on the horizon from the Boston based brewery.

Innocent yet beguiling, this hazy golden brew appears to be a classic wittier with its bright notes of orange citrus & coriander, but there’s a bit more mischief up its sleeve.  Behind its sweet exterior lies an intriguing blend of white sage and rye for an earthly, spicy, and thoroughly refreshing brew.

America’s First Craft Beer Makes a Comeback [PICS]

What is highly regarded as America’s first craft beer will be making a limited-edition comeback. With a little help from Boston Beer Co’s Jim Koch, New Albion Ale will be brewed and distributed again for the first time in 30 years. Jack McAuliffe, the original brewer and pioneer in craft brewing with New Albion Brewing Company, will be sharing the original yeast strain to make this beer as accurate as possible. This strain of yeast has been carefully maintained by the University of California since 1977.

“New Albion Ale is a deep, golden beer brewed with American Cascade hops and a 2-row malt blend.
The Cascade hops, sourced from the Pacific Northwest, create a moderate hop bitterness and lingering citrus and floral notes, balanced by the upfront cereal character and sweet finish from the malt.”

Jack says he is very excited to share his brew with an entirely new generation of craft beer drinkers. New Albion Ale is now available nationwide is 6 packs with all profits going to Jack McAuliffe. Below: Pic of Jack McAuliffe (Founder, New Albion) & Jim Koch (Founder, Boston Beer Co) at the Denver Rare Beer Tasting in Denver, Colorado last October.

Beer Street Journal got a few minutes with Jack as we drank the New Albion Ale. He’s excited to see it again of course – the packaging looking pretty much like it did when it first came out decades ago. Except – As Jack puts it “All the government warning shit on it.” Love this guy.

A fresh take on a fruit beer. This crisp, unfiltered lager is aged on blueberries for a pleasant blueberry aroma and taste. To taste this fruity character in a new direction, we brewed with Tettnang Noble hops for an added subtle citrus note. A delicious blend of flavors with a smooth lager finish.

Sam Adam’s latest creation, Tetravis, will be a barrel-aged Belgian quad that was proudly born in their barrel room alongside the rest of their Barrel Room Collection.

Its deep complexity begins with a molasses sweetness with notes of dark fruits like raisin and fig and develop further with an undercurrent of tart spice from its distinctive Belgian yeast for a truly transfixing brew.”

Sounds like a great beer to put in the back of closet and age for a year or two.

Sam Adam’s LongShot Series 2013: Zach Adams Magnificent Seven IPA

Samuel Adams Longshot Magnificent Seven

Samuel Adams is proud to announce that the annual quest for exceptional homebrews has yet again returned a wide spectrum of flavorful beers that continue to impress. Connecticut resident Zack Adams is one of 3 winners hand selected from over 1,000 entrants by industry leaders including Tony Forder from Ale Street News, Win Bassett of All About Beer, Bob Townsend of Atlanta Journal-Constitution and beer writers John Holl, Jay Brooks, and Marty Nachel. Together, they selected the winning brews based on the American Homebrewers Association Beer Judge Certificate Program guidelines. Each beer was carefully evaluated on the aroma, appearance, flavor and mouthfeel according to the style category under which it was submitted.

Zack Adams’s Magnificent Seven IPA is described as “a showcase of seven American hop varieties that impart a big piney and lingering resinous flavor. A true Imperial American IPA, this brew pours a rich bronze color. The slightly sweet malt character is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness with grapefruit, pine and earthy notes from the American hops. This medium-bodied IPA also delivers caramel, citrus, lemon and piney aromas.”

Look for this beer, as well as the 2 other winners, in the soon-to-be-launched LongShot Series Samplers.

Samuel Adams Longshot Strawberry Lager

Each year, founder and brewer Jim Koch and the other brewers at Samuel Adams recognize the most talented homebrewers for their world class brews through the Samuel Adams LongShot American Homebrew Contest. The first of this year’s winners, Dave Anderson, works in the packaging department at Sam Adams. His submission, a Strawberry Lager, is described as “a bright and fresh wheat beer, with a strong strawberry character balanced with toffee and citrus notes – the brewer’s vision of the perfect summertime beer to enjoy after a round of golf on a hot day.
