Tragedy: Exploding Keg Kills Redhook Worker

Tragedy struck Redhook Brewery this AM.  A brewery worker was killed when a beer keg exploded.

The worker, who has not yet been identified, was a man in his 20s or early 30s, said Assistant Fire Chief Steve Achilles. According to the assistant fire chief, the employee had been pressurizing kegs with air as part of a cleaning process to remove residual beer from them.

“The keg failed and exploded and he was injured by parts of the keg,” Achilles said.

A few news outlets are reporting that the worker suffered head and chest injuries after the keg failed and ruptured into to pieces.    Both Redhook and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, & Firearms are investigating.  The worker has yet to be identified.  [SeacoastOnline]

Redhook Brews No Equal Amber Lager For Soccer Fans

Redhook Brewery has teamed up with Seattle Sounders super fans the Emerald City Supporters to create a beer just for them.  Inspired by their mantra “We came to drink”, Redhook is releasing No Equal Amber Lager in both 22 oz bottles and draft across the Pacific Northwest this month.  Brewed with Munich and Caramel malts as well as Noble hops, this brew is a very drinkable 5.2% ABV and 30 IBU’s.  It will be released as part of the Blueline Series which was launched in 1993 to honor the old trolley barn and that Redhook formerly called home.   

Redhook’s  brewing manager Jen Talley had this to say of their new soccer brew:

“Seattle has become the soccer mecca of the U.S.  There is no equal to the passion ECS show for the Sounders, and as Seattle’s first craft brewery, we are thrilled to team up with them to release No Equal Amber Lager.  No Equal is a great beer.  It’s smooth and full of flavor but so drinkable that it can be enjoyed throughout the game.  The creation of No Equal Amber Lager was a partnership from start to finish.  From selecting the final recipe to designing the label, the ECS was involved every step of the way, ensuring this beer would turn out just right for its supporters.”

Redhook is the official sponsor of the Seattle Sounders.

Redhook American Independence Ale

To pay tribute to the American revolutionaries who started the home brewing tradition in the United States, Redhook and the American Independence Museum have joined forces to brew American Independence Ale, a true American style pale ale and Redhook’s fourth Brewery Backyard Series release. In the days preceding the American Revolution, colonists were fed up with overtaxed ales imported from England. In response, they raised their middle fingers high to English ales and began brewing their own beer. Based on a historic beer recipe using local ingredients and modern techniques, American Independence Ale was brewed in commemoration of the colonialists’ defiance. The Redhook brewing team drew inspiration for the beer from the nearby Folsom Tavern in Exeter, a tavern, now part of the American Independence Museum, where many New Hampshire patriots would gather for a beer in the days leading up to the American Revolution.

American Independence Ale is a crisp, refreshing American Style Pale Ale made using locally grown and malted barley and hops. New England’s Warthog wheat gives the beer body and a dense head that holds the citrus and floral aromas from Simcoe, Zeus and brewery-grown Nugget hops. The medium-bodied pale ale is golden in color and the combination of the hops, wheat and two-row malts gives the beer citrus, pine, floral notes and a dry finish.
