NEW RELEASE: Hoppin’ Frog Frog’s Hollow Double Pumpkin
I freaking love fall. I freaking love Halloween. Pumpkin beers are tasty and fun, and there’s a new one in town this year. (Well, more than one. Stop being technical.) This week Hoppin Frog brought barrel aged B.O.R.I.S. and now Frog’s Hollow Double Pumpkin.
Commercial Description:
There’s a Place just south they call Frog’s Hollow, with cauldrons afire in Fall, and they only speak in whispers of the name. There’s a brewery they say who has the secret, of spices picked just right. With a crying shout, they’ll knock it out, and hand you this Frog’s delight.
Taste Expectations: Clove. Nutmeg. Spices. Pumpkin. Fall. Some sweetness. Like candy, but carnival candy goodness.
Availability: 22oz Bombers. Hoppin’ Frog’s draft has yet to hit Atlanta.
Bourbon barrel aged fans, get excited. The barrel aged edition of B.O.R.I.S. by Hoppin Frog (Akron, OH) has arrived. The regular edition of B.O.R.I.S is a previous gold medal winner at the Great American Beer Festival, currently underway in Denver, Colorado. Take B.O.R.I.S, and whiskey, and you have another amazing beer on your hands.
Commercial Description: Made from our B.O.R.I.S. Imperial Stout, that was rated one of the World’s 50 Best Beers, and won the Gold Medal at the GABF in 2008. BARREL-AGED B.O.R.I.S. has picked up rich characters of vanilla, dark fruit, oak, and spice. It’s unbelievably complex and savory
.Hoppin Frog, despite being a very small brewery in Akron, Ohio continues to work full time to reach more states. They have barely been in Atlanta for a month and more and more offerings keep popping up. The most recent – Wild Frog Wheat Ale.
Wild Frog is a traditional German style unfiltered wheat beer. No fruit or spices were used in the brew process. Wild Frog uses a special yeast from the oldest brewery in the world -Weihenstephan. (Weihenstephan has been brewing since 1040 A.D.)
Availability – Year round in 22oz bottles, and Draft (although, to my knowledge no Hoppin Frog beers have hit taps in Atlanta yet…)
Taste Expectations – Some orange/ fruit arising from the special yeast. Wheat nose, and flavor with some light malts beginning to end. Great for warm weather.
A little over a week after Hoppin Frog’s big launch in Atlanta, 2 more offerings have shipped making a total of 6 available now. The follow up offerings are IPA’s, and are 2 of a 4 IPA’s offered by the brewery.
Hoppin to Heaven – IPA, 6.8 ABV. American IPA, that is both spicy and citrusy. Full of American hops to build a solid IPA offering on. Year round brew.
Mean Manalisihi Double IPA – 8.2% ABV. Big time additions of hops make this a big DIPA in both aroma and palette. Caramel malts round out this IPA for a delicious, complex offering by Hoppin Frog.
Availability – 22 oz Bomber bottles. Draft (all though no draft spottings yet.) Year Round. Retail $8-10 per bomber
UPDATE – 4/23 – No more production issues. Expected on shelves today.
In a matter of days, Atlanta will see beers from a new brewery. Hoppin’ Frog Brewing from Akron, Ohio.
Hoppin’ Frog was founded by Fred Karm, who has been craft brewing since 1994. A graduate of the University of Akron, brewing was a dream made a reality. A reality that has won Karm more awards than any other Ohio brewer since 2000. Hoppin’ Frog boasts a JV Northwest brewing system to produce its delicious lineup. JV Northwest is based out of Oregon, and is a specialty maker of stunning, handcrafted tanks designed individually for each brewer’s specifications. Hoppin’ also has a special bottling line Fred Karm procured to keep beer fresher, longer. Attention to intricate detail is a key focus with Hoppin’ Frog.
So what do I expect?
I don’t have a definitive line up of launch beers… yet. This is a TENTATIVE list of the launch lineup.
Hop Dam – Imperial IPA, 10% ABV. Big citrus/piney IPA here. You like lots of hops and bitter? HOP DAM! Seasonal release.
Outta Kilter Wee Heavy Scotch Red — Scotch Ale, 8.2 ABV. Malt forward red ale w/ caramel malts. A touch of Rye is added for more character. A great wee-heavy.
B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout — Russian Imperial, 9.4% ABV. Boris is big on oatmeal, masking the near 10% alcohol. If you’re an imperial stout fan, get your taste buds ready. 2008 GABF Gold Medal Winner.
Silk Porter — Porter, 6.2% ABV. Smooth palette. Robust. Toasted and caramel malts. Porter is rich is history. Do some reading! While having a Silk of course.
Mean Manalishi Double — Imperial IPA, 8.2% ABV. Manalishi is an assertive DIPA, with lots of hops, and caramels, toasted malts, and great hoppy aroma to start you off. 100+ IBU??
Hoppin’ Frog is distributed by Carlaken Wholesale in Atlanta. Frog’s beers have officially been approved and are maybe 7 days away from hitting the shelf. Hoppin’ Frog popularity is growing fast, but they are still a very small brewery with no pub, or tasting room. More on this launch soon.
Welcome to Georgia Hoppin’ Frog!
