Collaboration: Cigar City & Evil Twin

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) and Evil Twin Brewing (Denmark) team up  in a new ale born from fermentation history. Before the rise and popularity of wood barrels, the Greeks aged wine in ceramic vessels amphoras (something Cantilon has done recently.) The ceramic vessels were susceptible to oxygen, and were repaired with Aleppo pine sap. The use of the sap gave the wine a unique flavor, one mimicked in this collaboration, Columella.

This ale was inspired by the origins of a Greek wine called Retsina, which was produced over 2,000 years ago. The Greeks used ancient vessels for storage and transport of the wine that were made of mostly ceramic called amphora. These vessels pre-dated the more common storage vessel of today, wooden barrels. Ceramic was susceptible to flaws and breakage, allowing more oxygen ingress into the wine. The Greeks found a solution to mending these vessels by using sap from the Aleppo Pine (which we emulate by aging the beer on spruce wood). The resulting unique aromatic character became so popular with the Grecian people that they continued this method following the discovery and dominance of wood barrels.

Cigar City / Evil Twin Columella will be available in 22oz bombers.

Style:   (Oak Aged)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft

Cigar City Marshal Zhukov’s 2014 Bottled

This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Georgy Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World War II. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Cigar City’s Putting Sugar Plums in Cans

Cigar City Brewing’s (Tampa, FL) Sugar Plum Winter Porter look to make a can appearance this year. The once a year porter has been available in the past in 750ml bottles. It’s a bit of a complex porter as well, as you can see from the list of ingredients below.

A rich English-style Porter forms the stage for holiday flavors which dance a festive ballet highlighted by pirouetting leaps of winter-inspired spices. Cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, rose hips, and chamomile compliment the subtle chocolate and light coffee notes of the malt and the addition of roasted carob and chicory complete the performance. Brewed once a year to celebrate the season…

Style: Porter (Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamom, Rose Hips, Chamomile)
Availabilty: 750ml bottles, 12oz Cans (Coming Soon)

Drool Worthy: Cigar City Caffe Americano Double Stout

Cigar City Caffe Americano Double Stout appeared earlier this year on draft at the brewery. The imperial stout is decadent, brewed with coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Oh, and aged in rum barrels. Let the fight for it begin…

Traditional Caffe American is made by adding water to espresso. We break all the rules with this Double Stout. We refuse to add water to our beer after fermentation, but have noissues adding beer to our espresso. This deep, dark stout exhibits rich espresso and coffee notes, which are contributed by the generous use of roasted barley and locally roasted espresso. That simply is not enough for us. We also add roasted, raw chocolate and a hint of vanilla to this big bodied stout. Then, just for fun, we age it in rum barrels. Dodge the red eye and take a shot of the dark.

Cigar City Caffe Americano Double Stout will be released in 750ml bottles.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Coffee, Chocolate, Vanilla. Barrel Aged. Rum.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft. Limited
Arrival: TBA
