Brewdog Starts A Revolution

James Watt & Martin Dickie, founders of Brewdog Brewing have launched a new website. This one though is not for their beer, but a way to rally beer drinkers of the United Kingdom against “lies and propaganda that circulate through beer advertising and marketing.” It’s no secret that Brewdog has no love for big beer. BeerLeaks.org’s sole purpose is to expose dispel the smoke & mirrors around the UK beer scene. “A new voice for craft beer” as the mission statement suggests:

BeerLeaks is the voice of the craft beer revolution.

  1. No more will mainstream brands be able to lie to us about their beer
  2. No more will our perceptions of beer be skewed by marketing
  3. No more will we settle for limp, tasteless, fizzy, yellow lager
  4. No more will we stay silent

If you have a myth propagated by mainstream breweries that you can smash, submit your knowledge anonymously to BeerLeaks.org now.

Before the site launched today, a teaser video was on the home page. It has now been moved to the manifesto portion of the website – and pretty much sums up the goal of this revolution.  <BeerLeaks.org>

In case you missed it, Breckenridge Brewing just released a few videos recently dispelling some U.S. based myths in beer advertising.  They are HERE

Bitch Please!

Brew-3-Floyds-BitchThe Brewdog/3 Floyds Brewing collaboration- “Bitch Please” is available in the Brewdog store.  About Bitch:

I am a collaborative brew. I am a messed up, idiosyncratic, schizophrenic son of a bitch. I would blame my parents. With the wolves of Three Floyds and pirates from BrewDog involved, the writing really was on the wall for me. Right from the start.

Nick, Barnaby and Chris from the legendary Three Floyds visited BrewDog in August 2010 to brew this crazy beer. An inherently Scottish spin on a barley wine brewed with peated malts from Islay, shortbread, toffee and eclectic hops. After fermentation the beer was aged in old Jura single malt whisky barrels for 8 months.

All because of the Scamp Wolf of Badenoch. Bitch it up baby!

Style: American Barleywine (Barrel Aged)

11.5% ABV

Brewdog’s May State Of Affairs

A little on Brewdog’s state of Affairs courtesy of their May Hop Propaganda Newsletter. Into the buisness, geeky backend to brewing? Read on.

– 2011 is already a big year, with 200% growth & 400% order increase
– Great news, but the brewery is over capacity/production & having issues delivering
– To fix this, Brewdog is ceasing trading with larger customers consolidating customer base, installing new stock management software, and added external warehousing
– Starting in the beginning of 2011, Brewdog partnered with Meantime Brewing in London to help with production. This will continue until the new brewery is finished in Aberdeen, Scotland.   77 Lager and Zeitgeist are produced there.
– The new Aberdeen brewery will have a full water treatment plant onsite, and will be completely carbon neutral.
– To achieve neutrality, methods include heat recovery, water treatment & re-use, a bio-mass generator, and potentially a windmill.
– Groundbreaking will be in late 2011 for completion by Summer, 2012.
– Brewdog Glasgow construction has started.  New bar will be completed in early July.
– Abstrakt:06 arrives May 16th. A Triple dry hopped black IPA. 11.5% ABV.

Brewdog Looks To Keep Things “UP” For Royal Wedding

All the buzz in the UK is about the upcoming royal wedding. So exciting that England based Castle Rock is releasing “Kiss Me Kate” to honor the occasion. Brewdog Brewing is getting into the spirit too with a special release for the happy couple dubbed “Royal Virility Performance.”  Limited to just 1,000 bottles, Virility is claiming to be full of plenty of performance enhancing additions.  If you get what I mean.  Brewdog’s take on the wedding hype:

A limited-edition beer containing Viagra to mark the forthcoming royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29th. Brewed using various well known aphrodisiacs, the limited edition artisanal beer will only be available to buy from the BrewDog.com website. According to the specially commissioned label, the Royal Virility Performance contains Viagra, chocolate, Horny Goat Weed and ‘a healthy dose of sarcasm’. The beer is a 7.5% ABV India Pale Ale and has been brewed at BrewDog’s brewery in Fraserburgh.

With this beer we want to take the wheels off the royal wedding bandwagon being jumped on by dozens of breweries; The Royal Virility Performance is the perfect antidote to all the hype. A beer should be brewed with a purpose, not just because some toffs are getting married, so we created something at our brewery that will undermine those special edition beers and other assorted seaside tat, whilst at the same time actually give the happy couple something extra on their big day.

Bottles are about $16 U.S. dollars and ship on April 28th, the day before the blessed event. <Brewdog>

Lost Abbey Vs. Brewdog

If you have seen Tomme Arthur’s Twitter feed recently, he talks about his trip over the pond to Europe & spent a few days with Brewdog in Glasgow, Scotland.  You can’t put two brewers from breweries near half the globe apart and expect them not to collaborate on something.

James Watt unveiled the first collaboration between Lost Abbey & Brewdog today in his Hop Propaganda newsletter – “Lost Dog.”

We brewed an Imperial Porter, aiming for 10% ABV and using a blend of 7 different malts. In terms of hops, we keep the IBUs modest at 35 and hopped the beer entirely with First Gold. And of course this collaboration just had to be aged in oak.

We settled on some killer rum casks for the Imperial Porter. We only brewed a tiny batch of this beer and intend to age it in the rum barrels for about 12 months. So look out for the Lost Abbey & BrewDog rum barrel aged Imperial Porter coming your way in early 2012.

There you have it.

Brewdog Adds Edinburgh Pub

Brewdog announced today that their new brewpub in Edinburgh, Scotland will open March 22nd.  The first pub opened in Aberdeen and has been met with great success.  Brewdog believes that Edinburgh is one of the best craft beer scenes in Scotland.  About the location from Brewdog:

BrewDog Edinburgh is situated at 143, Cowgate, on the premises of a disused ‘Chasers’ bar. The building has been stripped out and transformed into an industrial, utilitarian space, with a reclaimed brick bar that puts the beer at the centre of attention. All the furniture and fittings are reclaimed and 2nd had, our sofas came form a local charity shop. As well as stocking BrewDog beers, the new bar showcases a myriad of diverse and often rare beers from all over the globe, with 14 draught taps and a menu containing hundreds of bottled beers.

The launch party will feature a huge lineup of Brewdog beer, even a Stone & Lost Abbey offering or 2!

Brewdog also mentioned they have plans of opening 3 new locations in 2011.  Announcements to follow.

More more quote from Brewdog:
The UK Beer Scene is sick.
And we are the fucking doctor.
