Bell’s Addresses Capacity Contraints

Anybody who loves Bell’s Two Hearted Ale knows it hasn’t been easy to come by lately.   That has spread rumors about capacity, pulling from markets, etc.  In special letter Bell’s addresses shortages, and the new expansion underway…

Letter addresses Bell’s Brewery Inc. 2011 capacity constraints

First and foremost all of us here at Bell’s want to thank you for the support you’ve shown for our beers this year! Our growth over the past few years has exceeded everyone’s expectations to the point that we simply are not able to keep up with demand. We’d also like to assure you that we do not have any intentions of pulling out of any states that we are currently selling beer in.

We feel that we are able to do this because we have started the process of increasing capacity to meet that growing demand.  The expansion project includes an additional, larger brewhouse, increased fermentation and dry hopping capabilities, and new grain handling facilities.  The additional capacity is scheduled to come on line early in 2012. Unfortunately until that time we will be forced to spread the beer we can produce to our existing customers as best we can.

The hardest hit has been Two Hearted Ale as demand has been off the charts!  Beyond the simple numbers crunch however, this beer requires special fermentation tanks for the dry hopping process making it impossible to shift brewing from other brands.  The additions to the brewery will include significant enhancements to our overall brewing capacity and to Two Hearted production in particular.  It is important to note that we will continue to allocate this brand until the new production facility is up and running.  We will be working with all of our distributor, retail, and restaurateur partners to apply this as evenly as possible throughout our current footprint.

Thanks again for all that the support that you’ve shown for Bell’s and we very much hope that you will bear with us through our growing pains knowing that there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Sincerely,

Marty Compton

Bells 750ml Bottles Launch June 27th

Bell’s Brewing released details regarding their new 750ml program today.  The bombers launch on June 27th exclusively at Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo, MI starting with Wedding Ale.  Per Bells:

Bell’s Brewery is excited to announce the debut of our Eccentric Cafe 750 ml bottle program beginning this summer. As we do not fill growlers at our pub, we want to make our pub only beers available for customers to take home and we feel that offering these brands in the 750 ml format is a great way to do this! These bottles will only be sold at the General Store in downtown Kalamazoo and will not be available for distribution as packaging runs will be small, making outside sales fairly impractical.  Over the next few months, we plan on bottling a wide variety of our pub only beers including Wedding Ale, Raspberry Ale, Mead, Sparkling Ale, and Wild One (just to start). Other brands will follow suit as they are brewed and labels are created. There will not be a set release schedule for when 750s will hit the General Store, however the program will kick off on Monday, June 27th with bottles of Wedding Ale. There also may be limits as to how many bottles can be purchased depending on the brand. We are looking forward to making these specialty beers available to leave the Eccentric Cafe in bottle for the very first time! Cheers!

Bell’s Bombers To Be Sold In Eccentric

Laura Bell of Bell’s Brewing has clarified more about the 750ml bottle releases.   They will be headed for the Eccentric Cafe in downtown Kalamazoo, MI.

Laura posted some clarification to a BeerAdvocate.com forum on 5/7/11:
We have started the label approval process for a number of different brands intended to be packaged in 750s. At this point we are just going through the approval stages and will release a “schedule” once we’ve decided on it. The 750s will only be available in our General Store in Kalamazoo and will not be distributed to our sales territories. As some of you know, we do not fill growlers at our pub in Kalamazoo and we want to provide a way for patrons to have the opportunity to take home some of the pub only beers… A more formal announcement of the Eccentric Cafe only 750 program will be released over the next few weeks.  Thanks!  -Laura Bell
Currently, bombers slated for 750ml release include Sparking Ale, The Wild One, Quinannan Falls Lager, Golden Rye Ale, & Wedding Ale.  Eccentric Cafe just under went some pretty big renovations recently along side Bell’s 50+million dollar expansion.

Bell’s Wild One Headed For Big Ones

Yet another Bell’s Brewing big bottle.  UPDATE: Eccentric Cafe Only releases for the 750ml bottles.

The Wild One is of course a wild ale, that comes from multiple blends.  Until these 750ml bottles, Wild One has been draft only.

Every batch of Wild One begins not as a single beer, but as more than 20 distinct batches fermented in wooden barrels, each with its own unique combination of wild yeasts & other microorganisms. After several months, the brewers then sample each of the barrels and blend to taste, selecting the desired flavor attributes from this array. The result is a refreshing tartness, supporting a heady fragrance of fruit, toasted oak, & vanilla.

Availability: 750ml bombers yet to be determined.

6-8% ABV
