Anheuser-Busch To Intimidate For Sales?

This should leave some sour tastes in peoples mouths.  The beer giant Anheuser-Busch might just have a new method to increase shipments and sales. (Which both have been falling for sometime now.)

Anheuser-Busch To Intimidate For Sales?

This should leave some sour tastes in peoples mouths.  The beer giant Anheuser-Busch might just have a new method to increase shipments and sales. (Which both have been falling for sometime now.)

Instead of changing with the tastebuds of the consumer, or even just accepting some loss due to a booming market and a wide range of choices, AB is taking the low road as it were.  Forcing wholesalers to pick sides.  A form of intimidate as it were.    The low road is two fold.  First – Ship 19 new brands this year – like Shock Top Shandy and Bud Light Platinum.  Secondly, urging wholesalers NOT to carry rival products.

…Bud has urged 500 wholesalers to distribute fewer rival beers, warning that it will act against those who don’t. An unapologetic Edmond says wholesalers must pick sides, and show “loyalty” to InBev.

Your immediate reaction to this is probably pretty predictable.  Deceitful. Underhanded, etc.  Beer giants like InBev have a “big beer” stigma attached to them.  They have been called evil before and it would be easy to call them evil now.  A question to you  – would you happier if it was  smaller brewery doing the same thing?  Is it just business and competition? Anheuser-Busch Testing Lime-A-Rita

Bud Light Lime-A-RitaAnheuser-Busch is currently in the early stages of testing  a variant of Bud Light Lime dubbed – Lime-A-Rita.  Cans of “Test Beer L” have recently been circulated within the company according to a local brewery rep.

From what I gather, Lime-A-Rita is an attempt to grow/appeal to a growing market of alco-pop drinkers (example FourLoko.)  Initial interpretations from those who have tasted it say the flavor is pretty close to an actual margarita. (Salt not included.)

No launch date has been announced.

Anheuser-Busch To Invest Close To $80 Mil In Can Plant

From a couple of days ago-  Anheuser-Busch has announced plans to increase production capacity at Metal Container Corporation facility in Arnold, Missouri.  The total investment is in the neighborhood of $70 – $80 million dollars.  The investment will add 100,000 square feet to the facility, and add 20 jobs to the current 100 jobs.   MCC makes the cans that AB uses  nationwide, and cans for soft drink companies.   The expansion is slated for completion in 2013.

“The expansion of our Arnold MCC facility is one more example of our company’s dedication to the state, contributing to the economic stability of the region,” said Luiz Edmond, president of Anheuser-Busch InBev North America. “Through our strong partnerships with state and local leaders, we have been able to bring this valuable investment to our hometown.”

The facility expansion is made possible through a property tax abatement program in collaboration with the City of Arnold and Jefferson County.  The bond program is designed to encourage business recruitment and expansion and provides incentives for a variety of industrial projects. Missouri Quality Jobs, the state’s Department of Economic Development program that helps create and maintain valuable jobs, also contributed incentives to this project.

Anheuser-Busch holds a 48.3% share of beer to United States retailers.  [PressRelease]

AB Says No Bud Light Flower Vases Please

So most craft beer aficianados would find it humorous to have a Bud Light 40 as the flower vase on their table at an establishment that serves up some nice craft beers right?  Well, Anheuser-Busch reps for the Houston restaurant, Hay Merchant, who did this didn’t find it quite as funny. They did not seem to like the comparison of their Budweiser products to water.

The reps offered up some cases of King Cobra, a malt beverage, to replace the flower vases.  Hay Merchant partner Bobby Heugel accepted the King Cobra bottles quite willingly and they are now using those on their tables.  In fact, the servers actually like them better as they are clear and it is easier to see the water level.

Michelob Ultra Light Cider, Launches May 7th

Cider is the new pink.  MillerCoor’s craft extension Tenth & Blake just acquired Crispin Cider for close to $100 million.  Sam Adams has recently discontinued Hardcore Cider, in lieu of Angry Orchard Ciders arriving in March.  Cider is definitely on the move.

Anheuser-Busch is getting in the game too – with an extension of their “Ultra” brand – Michelob Ultra Light Cider.  According to a local AB rep, the cider won’t be as sweet as most ciders out there, and a lower calore alcoholic beverage.   Definite approaching the calorie conscious drinker.  The cider will be all natural, and gluten free.

4% ABV
