Anchor Releases Marks Mild In Magnums

Say that a few times after drinking. Anchor Brewing (San Francisco, CA) just released Mark’s Mild in Magnum bottles. The beer celebrates brewmaster Mark Carpenter’s 41st year at Anchor. Since becoming brewmaster, Mark has been innovating. Brekle’s Brown joined Anchor’s ranks in 2011, followed by the Zymaster Series in 2012.

This summer, the second release in the Zymaster Series hit taps. That’s not enough to commemorate Mark’s hard work right? Starting today, 1.5 liter “magnum” bottles are on sale at Anchor’s taproom. ($29.99).

Flavor? Mark’s Mild is inspired by the British Mild style, lower in alcohol, but high in flavor. This brew has a malty sweetness with hints of chocolate, nuts, caramel and toffee, and a smooth, thirst-quenching finish, proving the notion that beer doesn’t have to be extreme to be interesting.

Congrats to Mark Carpenter for a great 41 years. Here’s to 40 more. [PressRelease]

Anchor Will Break Production Record This Year, New Brewery A Maybe

There are big things brewing at Anchor. (Pun intended). Greg Kitsock writes in the Washington Post today, that Anchor should break their production output record this year. For the San Francisco based brewery – that’s just 110,000 barrels (3.4 million gallons) up from 90,000 barrels.  That’s not that big, all things considered. SweetWater in Atlanta is jumping from a potential 100,000 barrels a year to 500,000 capacity. Anchor just installed more tanks, with a couple more on the way.

Another little note – Mark Carpenter, Anchor’s 69 year old brewmaster says another brewery is an inevitability. When and where? I guess we’ll wait and see.

Anchor’s Merry Christmas 2012

2012 marks the 38th brewing of Anchor Brewing’sOur Special Ale” (aka Anchor Christmas).  Each year the recipe is a different, much like the tree is on the label.  2012’s label features Araucaria heterophylla, a pine that is endemic to Norfolk Island, located in the Pacific Ocean near Australia and New Zealand.  The tree is also called the “star pine” due to it’s highly symmetrical shape. Expect to see this Anchor seasonal in November.

This is the thirty-eighty “Our Special Ale” from the brewers at Anchor. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year, as the tree on the label, but the intent with which we  offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born a new.

Style: Winter Warmer
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Liter Magnums, Draft. Nov-Jan.

5.5% ABV

Anchor Brewing‘s newest series -The Zymaster Series debuted in  February, with California Lager. While the name “zymaster” is made up, the beer is very real. The true definition of session beer. The British mild proves that big flavor doesn’t have to be big in booze.
