Abita Releasing 25th Anniversary In June

Abita Brewing (Abita Springs, LA) was founded in 1986 just outside of New Orleans.  They have gone from producing 1,500 barrels of beer in their first year to almost 110,000 each year.  In addition, Abita makes 6,000 barrels of root beer.  Amazing root beer.

In honor of Abita’s 25 years of craft brewing, the brewery plans on releasing a 25th anniversary beer.  All the details are 100% official, but it looks like it will be “double vanilla Turbodog, 7% abv”.  Actually release date isn’t set.

The brewery also plans to release a few draft only selections, a black IPA (Dark cascadian, or whatever term you want) and a Russian imperial stout in 2011…

SEASONAL RETURN: Abita Christmas

Christmas Ale from Abita Brewing (Abita Springs, LA) rounds out the brewery’s year.  Each year the recipe is just a little different, but always on the darker side of the spectrum.  Christmas Ale was first brewed shortly after the brewery opened it’s doors in 1986.

Commercial Description:
Christmas Ale rounds out our calendar. Generally, this beer is a dark ale, however, the recipe changes each year, offering a unique product crafted with special care. Enjoy your holidays with Abita Christmas Ale. The spicy character is excellent with traditional holiday foods such as gingerbread or spiced nuts. Try some Blue cheese or a creamy Camembert with a Christmas Ale.

Style: American Brown Ale

Taste Expectations: 2010 edition brings hops and spices first. Spices are “Christmasy” with hints of nutmeg.  Nutty also.

SEASONAL RETURN: Abita Pecan Harvest

Summer is hanging on literally by hours.  This update is  a couple of days behind, but as fall creeps in Abita’s Pecan Harvest arrives.  Pecan Harvest is part of the Abita Springs, Louisiana breweries’s Harvest series – alongside Strawberry Lager, and Satsuma Wit.

Commercial Description:
Pecan Harvest Ale is made with real Louisiana pecans that have been toasted to perfection. That makes it something really special, because most beers with a nutty flavor or aroma aren’t made with real nuts. The natural oils from the Louisiana pecans give the ale a light pecan finish and aroma.

Style: American Brown Ale

Taste Expectations: This beer is brewed with pecans, so expect it! Strong malt profile – caramel is pronounced. Biscuit, nuts. Nice and not too aggressive.

Food Pairings: From Abita – red meat, seafood, gouda cheese, and no surprise here, it’s also great with nuts! Try Pecan Harvest with Gouda cheese

Availability: 12oz/6 pks. Limited fall seasonal.

5% ABV
