Stillwater To Bring Stateside & Cellar Door To Small Bottles

Stillwater Artisanal Ales will will be offering two of their popular offerings in smaller, 12.7 oz bottles this year.  Both beers are previously available in 750ml bottles.

Cellar Door – Starting with a base of German wheat & pale malts this crisp slightly hazy foundation was then accented with a blend of Sterling & Citra hops providing a intricate blend of herbal grass & tangerine citrus flavors and aroma. to pull this all together and to complete the ’cleansing’ aspect of my vision i gently finished the ale off with a touch of white sage, lending a mild earthy spice character to the blend.

Stateside Saison – Pays homage to old world tradition while celebrating new world innovation. Naturally brewed with the finest European malts & fresh aromatic hops from the United States & New Zealand.

Both great saisons in small, easier to manage formats…

Anheuser-Busch Close To Buying Out Modelo (Makers Of Corona)

Anheuser-Busch InBev NV  is closing in on a deal that would give the brewing giant control of Grupo Modelo SAB de CV.  Grupo Modelo is known for grands like Corona Extra, Modelo Especial, Negra Modelo, & more.  The deal is reported to be valued somewhere between $10- $12 billion.  AB Inbev already own a 50% non controlling stake in Modelo.  This deal would essentially be buying the rest of Modelo.

Grupo Modelo and AB Inbev haven’t had the best relationship.  When Anheuser-Busch merged with Belgian based InBev, Modelo filed arbitration in the deal, claiming it was not consulted in the matter.  [Chicago Tribune, WSJ]

New Hampshire, Georgia: No Postive Contact Box Sets For You

Georgia and New Hampshire will NOT receive Dogfish Head’s newest collaboration Positive Contact.  The Delaware based brewery has stated that New Hampshire and Georgia will be unable to sell the box sets thanks to some legal entanglements.

Positive Contact is not able to be approved in New Hampshire. The box sets are also not able to be sold in Georgia. We are still waiting on (with crossed fingers) approvals from CT, IL, NC, and TX. We are hopeful those four states will come through with an approval and we are holding beer for wholesalers in those four markets. If approvals come through in the next month or so, we will send Positive Contact to those four states.

Don’t be upset with DFH.  Call your state legislature. Find out why their state’s piss poor excuse for beer laws are keeping you from having this beer.

Samuel Adams & Berkshire Create Beer Infused Whiskey

Boston maker Samuel Adams has teamed up with Berkshire Mountain Distillers to create beer infused spirits.  The two entities will create two different spirits/whiskeys, using Sam Adams Boston Lager, and Samuel Adams Cinder Bock.   Both spirit offerings will be triple distilled, then wood barrel aged.

The two brews differ greatly in taste profile and will each be distilled — a process using heat to separate liquids according to their volatility — three times to allow for the creation of two very unique spirits.

Samuel Adams Boston Lagerwill age for two years in vintage wooden bourbon barrels.  Samuel Adams Cinder Bock, a smoky rauchbier will age for two years in oak barrels.  Some used to aged Utopias, Sam Adam’s biggest beer.

“One of the best things about being a brewer is that the learning never ends.  It’s been fun to share my knowledge of brewing with Chris throughout this process, and he has certainly taught me more than a thing or two about distilling,” says Samuel Adams founder and brewer Jim Koch.  “There are many parallels between making spirits and brewing beer.  Marrying the two not only makes sense, but will also produce a drink that beer- and spirits-lovers alike can enjoy.

It takes 12,000 gallons of beer to make just 500 gallons of whiskey.  The used barrels will leave the distillery bound for Boston for a “yet to be named” barrel aged beer that Samuel Adams will produce in the future.  The whiskey will be distributed by Berkshire Mountain.

Estimated Release:  2015

That’s A Clown Question Bro! Gets A Beer Namesake

The Bryce Harper “That’s a clown question bro!” comment is now a beer.  Last week, the Washington Nationals outfielder was asked if he had a favorite beer.  He’s a 19 year old Canadian that can’t drink in the U.S.   In addition to the age factor, he’s reportedly Mormon to boot.  They frown/forbid alcohol consumption.

Denver Brew Co didn’t miss a beat with that kind of beer name fodder.  The brewery plans on releasing Clown Question, a fitting Canadian lager this week when the Washington Nationals visit the Colorado Rockies.  Apparently, it might even come with a red clown nose.

In an ESPN report –  Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox was asked how he would have responded.   “I would have said fuck you, I’m 19.”

Of course this video would exist too. (H/T Denver Westward)
