First Look: New Belgium New TV Spots [VIDEO]

New Belgium (Ft Collins, CO) is launching a summer campaign dubbed “Pairs Well With People,” complete with Fat Tire focused tv spots. The idea is to capture a new generation of fans of the flagship beer. Skateboard legend-turned-documentary-film-director, Stacy Peralta (“Dogtown and Z Boys”, “Riding Giants”, “Bones Brigade”), directed the New Belgium staff in the  :30-second broadcast spots. (Available below.)

“We believe there is huge opportunity to introduce beer drinkers to the friendly shores of the craft brewing community and to New Belgium and Fat Tire as well,” said New Belgium Brewing Branding Director, Josh Holmstrom. “There is such a wide variety of new and interesting media to engage with them including social, mobile and Digital Video.”

The spots were filmed over the course of 3 days in Ft. Collins, and features music of the March Fourth Marching Band. The campaign has a strong social element too, including a Facebook App that will allow uses to insert photos into New Belgium themed frames. Users will be entered in a drawing to win the infamous New Belgium cruiser bike. Look for promotions on Twitter and Instagram too.

The “Pairs Well With People” campaign will run through Labor Day, 2013. [Full Details]

Drunk Man Cuts Off His Penis in Fight with Girlfriend

In a story you’d almost wish was made up, a drunken Taiwanese man cut off his own penis in a fight with his girlfriend. The 46 year old man got into a brouhaha with his girlfriend, and thought revenge means cutting off his penis AND testicles with a pair of scissors. Pause for sympathy pain. Just wait, it gets better.

He then flushed the severed willy down the toilet. (Yeah, why stop while you’re ahead right??)

Passing out from blood loss, his girlfriend (for now???) rushed her Mensa candidate boyfriend to the hospital. Apparently there is a little over an inch left of his manhood. He is still able to pee. Doctors say the could have reattached it if he hadn’t chose to bury it at sea.

There. Are. No. Words.

Red Lobster’s Chemical Filled Beer Line Injures Customer

When you clean tap lines, flush the cleaner out of the lines. It’s that simple. Business traveler Justin Grogg found that out when he ordered a Budweiser at the Dallas Red Lobster. Early that morning, the taps lines were cleaned at the restaurant, however some of the potassium hydroxide used as cleaner was left in the line. His throat and stomach immediately started burning, prompting a hospital visit.

The damage was minor, but now he is seeking $50,000 – $100,000 dollars in damages.  Ouch. Darden Restaurants owns Red Lobster, plus other notables Longhorn Steakhouse, Seasons 52, Capital Grill, and Yard House.

Tulsa Brewery Raided After Customers Complain Beer is Too Strong

Pi Pizzeria and Craft Beer House (Tulsa, OK) holds a license to sell “low-point” beer. Low point aka Three-Two, contains no more than 3.2% alcohol by weight- or 4% ABV.

“Through the sampling process, we sent those samples to the lab and did determine they were making an alcoholic beverage, not low-point beer,” said Erik Smoot, ABLE Commission agent.

All brewing equipment was seized and the manager was charged with with making and selling strong beer without a license.

BSJ Ed Note: WHO WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT STRONG BEER?
