[PICS] The Alchemist Cleans Up, Plans “Act II”

Spirits seem to be good with the folks at The Alchemist Pub & Brewery in Waterbury, Vermont.  The town was devastated by floods from Hurricane Irene on Sunday.  Floodwaters destroyed the brewpub.  The last couple of days, The Alchemist has been cleaning up.  Luckily, they have taken the time to post some pics of the scene up there.

Apparently floodwaters send some of the brewery equipment a block away from the pub.  Seems like the pub is already planning for “Act II” the rebuild.

Heady Topper is being canned this week on schedule, as The Cannery is further away from the floodwaters.  [Alchemist]

Boulevard Brewing Helps Victims Of Joplin Tornado

Boulevard Brewing announced today a fundraising plan to help the individuals impact by the Joplin tornado.  On May 22nd, a devastating F5 (massive, evil bitch of a tornado. Winds 200+) ripped through Joplin, Missouri killing 122 people and injuring more than 1,000 others.  The storm was the 8th worst in history, causing over $3 billion dollar in damage.

Throughout the month of September, Boulevard will donated $1.00 for every keg sold in Missouri to the Red Cross.  40% of the sales of Boulevard beer occurs in the state, so the brewery hopes a meaningful donation will be made when the month is over.

“It’s no secret that Boulevard beer is one of Kansas City’s treasures,” said Matt Meyer, chief executive officer for the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross, “and the Red Cross is incredibly grateful that such an esteemed company has decided to demonstrate its commitment to its local communities throughout Missouri by assisting us in the Joplin relief effort.”

Heineken Stock Downgraded

Heineken NV is the largest beer seller in Europe.  However, the stock is getting a downgrade according to Forbes.

With brand momentum slowing, the stock has gotten downgraded from “buy” to “hold”.  Not a bleak as it sounds, but not a great.  The first half of 2010 found with just over 1 billion in profits.  First half of 2011 was down to $873 million.

Heineken NV revenue is up this year, but attributed to acquisitions, not brand momentum. Commitment to the brand marketing is encouraging. [Forbes]

Abita 25th Delayed Until September

Abita Brewing’s 25th Anniversary beer was slated for a June 2011 release.   Bottle supplier issues have pushed the beer back to September.   25th Anniversary is a double Turbo Dog with vanilla beans.

Turbo dog is the inspiration for this robust dark ale with rich flavors of chocolate, toffee, and vanilla.  It is brewed with generous amounts of pale, caramel, and chocolate malts, and Willamette hops.  Whole natural vanilla beans are added during the aging process.

25 years ago, Abita Brewing was founded on a pristine artesian aquifer north of New Orleans.  For a quarter of a century, Abita has proudly brewed full-flavored ales and lagers.  We thank our loyal customers for their support and pledge to continue the tradition of brewing excellence.

Long Trail Deals With Flooding

Preface: I don’t know where this picture originated.  It’s been circling around Twitter for the past 12 hours.  Not only is The Alchemist suffering from Hurricane Irene effects, but Long Trail Brewing (Bridgewater Corners, VT) suffered some flooding too.

Checking in on the Facebook page, it seems that the water wasn’t as devastating as The Alchemist.  The brewery will continue to brew, and will not lose any of the current beer.

Thoughts go out to everyone affected by the storm, especially Vermont.  The pictures say it all.
