To celebrate this big business arises the Can Can Awards. The competition is broken down by style, similar to the World Beer Cup or medals at the Great American Beer Festival.

Consumers pay attention to (and ultimately buy) award winners. for the price of shipping a few cans and taking a minute to fit out the entry, your brewery can be in contention for a Can Can Award.

Drunk reading. Barnes & Noble to sell beer & wine

Starbucks has branched out into beer and wine with moderate success. Taco Bell has tested alcohol on their menu as well. Now, Barnes & Noble looks to be placing a bet on beer and wine.

At an investor meeting on Thursday, Barnes & Noble announced that on premise beer and wine will be available at at least four of their new stores opening soon. This move? To compete with Amazon.

Amazon is the biggest enemy of Barnes & Noble, which has been posting losses as of late. The Nook reader isn’t doing too hot either, as people still love paper.

The move to sell beer and wine is one to hopefully lure people back into the store for their purchases/reading, and sometimes cramming for finals, over ordering in a matter of days with Prime.

In the meantime, I still haven’t had a beer at a Starbucks. Perhaps tonight is the night.

Alabama bill to allow brewery growler sales passes state senate

SB211 aka “Growler Bill” passed the Alabama state senate yesterday, by a vote of 23 to 4. If Governor Bentley signs the bill, it would go into effect on June 1st, 2016.

This bill will allow patrons of the states’s breweries to purchase up to 288 ounces of beer in a growler, per person, per day, from the brewery’s tap rooms.

Additionally, the bill removes a stipulation that brewpubs could only open in counties that were wet prior to Prohibition.
