Abita Celebrates Louisiana Becoming 18th State

The next edition in Abita’s Select Series is shipping.  The beer is Bière de Garde, named in honor of Louisiana becoming the 18th state 200 years ago.

In 1812 the eighteenth star was added to the flag of the United States of America to represent the brand new state of Louisiana. The 18th Star Bière de Garde is a tribute to our French heritage.

Bière de Garde is a French style farmhouse ale, brewed with pilsner and wheat malts, oats and German perle hops.  Lemon peel is added to impart a “slightly citric flavor and aroma.”  The beer is then aged for 3 months.

Style: Biere De Garde
Availability: Draft only. One time brew

7% ABV, 25 IBUs

An 18th Star Release Party is planning for May 31, 2012

2336 Kaliste Saloom Rd., Lafayette, LA 70508

Abita Strawberry 2012 On Shelves

There is a large fan base for this beer, so those who been waiting on it, go get it.  Abita’s Strawberry Harvest Lager is on the shelves.  The lager is brewed with copious amounts of fresh strawberries.  The beer was first released in 2006 and was an instant hit.    The brewery tells me in 2012 they will ship (or are shipping) 200,000 cases of Strawberry Harvest Lager this year to over 40 states.  The beer always sells out.

Strawberry Harvest Lager is a wheat beer made with real Louisiana strawberries, picked late in the season when they’re at their swee This brew has earned quite a reputation in a short time, causing the brewery to up their production year after year. When this brew is found, emails and phone calls fly to friends informing them of the store’s location. Strawberry Harvest is a crisp, light lager with just a hint of strawberry sweetness. It is wonderful with desserts or lighter fares such as salads and pastas. Fresh cheeses such as Burrata, chevre, Creszenza, mozzarella or Teleme pair well with Strawberry Harvest.

Style: Fruit Beer
Availability: 12 oz bottles

4.2% ABV 13 IBUs
