Wicked Weed Red Angel returns March 26th

Wicked Weed Red Angel returns once again on March 26, 2016. The sour and wild “Angel” series has been a very successful one for the Asheville, North Carolina based brewery.

Based on fan’s love of the brewery’s second-ever bottle release, Black Angel, and the extra barrel aging space in the Funkatorium, a full-on Angel series was born. The Angel lineup starts with Red Angel, and includes White Angel, Golden Angel, and Angel of Darkness.

Wicked Weed Red Angel is a red sour ale, aged in white wine barrels with raspberries. The brewery used around 1.5 pounds of raspberries per gallon in the brewing process.

Wicked Weed Red Angel pre-sale tickets have sold out once again in 2016. There will be limited day-of bottles available at the brewery’s Funkatorium on March 26th, 2016. $20/bottle.

Creature Comforts Emergence, brewery release March 5th

Creature Comforts Emergence will debut to the public on March 5th, 2016. This beer will be the brewery’s first large bottle release of the year.

Creature Comforts Emergence is an tart blond ale (American wild ale), that has been fermented using at least four strains of the brewery’s house Brettanomyces yeast, and has been resting in wine barrels for a full year until it was bottled in January, 2016.

“This is the beer we plan to make again when we get  new, freshly emptied wine  barrels,”  said  Wood   Cellar  and  Specialty  Brand  Manager,  Blake  Tyers. “As  a  result of using fresh barrels every time, Emergence will never be the exact same beer twice, and we are extremely proud of the  2015  vintage.”

Beer Street Journal has had a sneak preview of this upcoming release, and we think this might be one of the best barrel-aged beers by the Athens, Georgia brewery to date.

Creature Comforts Emergence a 750 miliiter bottle offering, only available at a special tour on March 5th.

Style: American Wild Ale (Barrel Aged. Wine Aged.)

SweetWater 19, a Belgian golden in wine barrels

2016 marks Atlanta, Georgia’s biggest brewery’s 19th year. To celebrate, meet SweetWater 19 Golden Belgian Style Ale.

Readers of Beer Street Journal will recall that last year’s birthday beer was intended to be a sour ale. However, anyone that knows anything about wild ales knows that the beer is ready when it’s ready. That sour is still in the barrels.

While not the sour ale that everyone is still clamoring for, SweetWater 19 is a golden Belgian-style ale, aged in both Merlot and Cabernet barrels.

This Golden Belgian Style Ale matured for over a year on brett in Cabernet and Merlot barrels, then was blended with a bright, citrusy hop-forward Belgian style IPA. Four plus two equals seven here, as the finished product is bigger than the sum of its parts. The art of this crafted cuvee is in the hop profile with a Belgian style nose up front, followed by woody undertones and a complex finish. After 19 years we’re still all about brewing great beer, supporting the communities who drink it and having a kick ass time along the way.

Much like the previous releases, SweetWater 19 will be available in 750 milliliter bottles, corked & caged. The brewery has not yet announced this offering.

Style: Belgian-style Strong Ale (Barrel Aged. Wine Aged.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft. Limited Release
Release: TBA (Typically February/March), 2016
