Southern Tier Salted Caramel smells and tastes like dessert

Southern Tier Salted Caramel has joined the brewery’s ongoing Blackwater Series. The series is known for beers like Creme Brûlée, and Choklot.

Salted Caramel takes a base imperial milk stout (brewed with lactose), Himalayan pink sea salt, and caramelized sugar to mimic the flavor of the candy. Much like other beers in the Blackwater Series, this dessert beer finishes at 10% alcohol by volume.

Recently, the brewery started moving these big stouts into 12 ounce bottles. Southern Tier Salted Caramel follows that 12 ounce, 4-pack trend.

How does it taste? The name pretty much says it all. Creme Brûlée smells and tastes like a boozy, beer incarnate of the dessert. Salted Caramel smells like caramel, and tastes like a sweet, roasted malt/caramel-y imperial stout with a touch of salt. Find yourself a big glass and some vanilla ice cream.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Pink Sea Salt, Caramelized Sugar.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Release: June, 2016 (Bottles hitting markets in July)

Southern Tier Cherry Gose hits shelves

Southern Tier Cherry Gose is one of the latest releases from the Lakewood, New York based brewery.

The gose style hails from Germany. At least 50% of the base beer is brewed with wheat, plus adjuncts like salt and coriander. Most goes-style beers are around 4 to 5.5% alcohol by volume.

Southern Tier Cherry Gose incorporates tart cherry juice in an imperial edition of the style. The brewery’s home state of New York ranks 4th in the United States in tart cherry production. A unnamed grower near the brewery provided the cherry puree.

Cherry Gose is soured over the course of three days using Lactobacillus buchneri, a strain of souring bacteria.

Quantitatively, this beer is quite sweet, but we find that this level of residual sweetness is just enough to balance the acidity and that the overall perception of the beer is actually quite dry.

The beer will be available in 12 ounce bottles and draft as a limited release.

Style: Gose (w/ Pink Sea Salt, Cherry Juice
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: Late June/July, 2016

Tin Roof Gose with the Flow debuts today

Tin Roof Gose with the Flow debuts today, with bottles hitting shelves by July. This is a completely new beer by the Louisiana based brewery.

Typical of the nose style (which is on fire in the U.S. these days), Tin Roof Gose with the Flow uses coriander and Himalayan Pink Sea Salt in the brewing process. Lactic bacteria and ale yeast create the tartness. The result is a great heat-beating beer.

This is our take on an old German beer that was almost extinct. We used a mix of wheat and barley, spiced it up with Coriander and Himalayan Pink Salt and finally fermented with both yeast and lactic bacteria. The result is a smooth flavor with almost no bitterness and a slight sour spiciness, followed by citrusy zest. The finish is crisp and dry with a mouth puckering sensation. Enjoy this very refreshing brew after mowing the yard or a day at the beach.

Tin Roof Gose with the Flow will be a 22 ounce bottle and draft offering starting in July, 2016.

Style: Gose (w/ Sea Salt, Coriander)
Hops: Saaz, Liberty
Malts: Wheat, 2-Row, Pilsner

Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft.
Release: 6/24/2016
