Firestone Walker Wookey Jack Ships in New Format

Firestone Walker’s (Paso Robles, CA) popular Wookey Jack is now shipping in new 12-ounce four-pack format.

“The original 22-ounce Wookey Jack can be challenging for one person to take down, but at least you can see it coming,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “In contrast, the 12-ounce Wookey Jacks are easier to handle by themselves, but they are more likely to gang up on you.”

Wookey Jack is brewed with Malted Rye, Cara Rye to impart a spicy grain quality to the palate. The beer is dry hopped with Citra and Amarillo hops to balance the spice with a blast of citrus.

Style: Black IPA (w/ Rye)
Hops: Citra, Amarillo, German Magnum
Malts:  Malts: Pale Malt, Malted Rye, Dash of Cara Rye, Midnight Wheat from Briess, De-Bittered Black Malt (sourced from Weyermann, Germany and Patagonia Malting, Chile), Dash of Wookey Dust

Stone Brewing Creating w00tstout 2.0

It started with w00tstout release #1, a collaboration between Stone Brewing Co.’s Greg Koch, actor Wil Wheaton, and Fark.com founder Drew Curtis. Farking Wheaton w00tstout was an imperial stout brewed with pecans, wheat & rye, partially aged in bourbon barrels. Released in July, 2013.

Well now it’s time for a reboot. Meet w00tstout 2.0. Wheaton & Curtis return, with the help of Aisha Tyler. Tyler has been on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Who’s Line is It Anyway? and Archer.

w00tstout 2.0 wil be similar to last years release, an imperial stout brewed with wheat, rye, pecans, plus a new addition -stone-ground chocolate. Don’t forget this is partially aged in bourbon barrels.

Boulevard Rye-On-Rye 2014 Ships

It’s a cold January out there. Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) has a beer to help you warm up a bit.

Kicking off the the year with the first release in their Smokestack Series is Rye-On-Rye. The base beer a rye beer, aged in Templeton Rye barrels.

Why not brew a rich, tawny rye ale, then mellow it in the warmth of charred oak rye whiskey casks? Two kinds of malted rye provide spicy sweetness, giving way to notes of caramelized wood and the citrusy tang of Citra and Ahtanum hops before easing into a dry, lingering finish.

Style: Rye Beer (w/ Brown Sugar, DextroseBarrel Aged. Whiskey)
Hops: Magnum, Citra, Styrian Golding, Athanum

Boulevard Bottling Tasting Room Offering

Boulevard Brewing Co (Kansas City) is gearing up to release a few offerings from their tasting room experiments in bottles for a mix pack due late summer. The idea is to give Boulevard drinkers outside of KC the opportunity to try some of the brewery’s experiments.

Among the first to hit bottles is Westside Rye Ale, a rye based beer dubbed  “a sessionable beer with a slightly spicy character.”  You’ll find three of these in each sample pack.
