DC Brau Penn Quarter Porter. The first bomber release by the Washington D.C. based brewery.

Penn Quarter Porter was our first in a line of draft and 22oz bomber limited-release beers, and it’s a robust porter! In the way that The Publicâ„¢ is on the line between a pale ale and an IPA, this is on the line between a porter and a stout – with chocolate notes and a dry, roasted finish.

Style: Porter
Availability: 22 oz bottles, Draft.

5.5% ABV

Fun Fact: The beer is the area where you’ll find Ford’s Theater in the nations capital. As you’ll see on the label, Lincoln’s top hat and coat are still on display.

Cigar City Celebrates 1000th Batch (And Estonians)

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) will soon spin out a new porter in celebration of their 1000th batch of beer.

Kalevipoeg (KAH-lay-vee-poo-egg) translates to “Kalev’s son” and refers to an epic poem from Estonia about a giant that helped form the lands and battled giants from other neighboring countries.

Baltic porters hail from Estonia and other countries in the Baltic region of Europe.  We brewed this dark lager to celebrate our 1000th batch and give a tip of the hat to Estonians as well.

Here’s to 1000 more, and, if we’re lucky, even more

Style: Baltic Porter
Availability: 750ml bottles, Draft.
Arrival: TBA

9% ABV

Brewdog/Lost Abbey Lost Dog Releasing Soon

The Brewdog/Lost Abbey collaboration –  Lost Dog, will be released any day now.   This is an imperial porter aged in rum barrels.

Look for it in the Brewdog online store soon, with some headed stateside in early 2012.

We brewed an Imperial Porter, aiming for 10% ABV and using a blend of 7 different malts. In terms of hops, we keep the IBUs modest at 35 and hopped the beer entirely with First Gold. And of course this collaboration just had to be aged in oak.

We settled on some killer rum casks for the Imperial Porter. We only brewed a tiny batch of this beer and intend to age it in the rum barrels for about 12 months. So look out for the Lost Abbey & BrewDog rum barrel aged Imperial Porter coming your way

Surly Smoke Lager Returns 12/19

Surly Smoke LagerSurly Smoke Lager is due out December 19th, 2011.  This smoky porter/lager is a seasonal offering from the Minnesota brewery.

Ebony-hued, Smoke wafts out of the bottle and into your senses, borne on the wings of European traditions, wrapped in American innovation. Lager-brewed, like any true Baltic Porter, with smoked malts from Bamberg, Germany, the home of Rauchbiers, then mellowed by oak-aging. Black malt flavors mesh with notes of raisins, plums, figs and licorice with the subtle smoke on the side, for a complex and luxurious, yet silky smooth drinking experience. It’s a sipper at Alc. 8.2% by VOL., but everyone knows you can’t have Smoke without fire!

Style: Baltic Porter
Hops: Warrior
Malts:  Pale, Smoked, Black Oats
Yeast:  German Lager

Taste Expectations:  Roasty, sweet, & chocolate malts, blend beautifully with a smokey flavor.
Availability:  750ml bottles, Limited Draft.  Winter release.

8.2% ABV, 50 IBUs
