Port City Brewing Turns “Two”

Port City Two

On February 1, 2013, Port City Brewing (Alexandria, VA) crosses the two year mark. That calls for a beer. An imperial smoked porter dubbed “Two”.  Look for it in the tap room, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia accounts in February.

….This Porter is a stronger, smoked version of Port City’s flagship Porter. It is dark brown, almost black in color, and has a smoky, roasted aroma and smooth, rich, complex smoke and chocolate flavors….

Port City’s brewers and the Tasting Room crew teamed up to mill in by hand 5,000 pounds of German beech wood smoked malt and 600 pounds of roasted malt.

The 5th edition of Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, Florida)’s Capricho Oscuro Ale is upon us. The brewery bottled it today. The beer is a blend of 5 beers aged in different barrels:

Hot Blooded Foreign Stout – Foreign Stout, 7%

Puppy’s Breath Robust Porter – Porter, 8%

Warmer Winter Winter Warmer  – Barleywine aged on cedar. 10%

Style: American Strong Ale (Barrel Aged, Brandy & Cognac)

Release 1: blend of Humidor Imperial Stout, an American Imperial Stout, Bolita Double Nut Brown, Puppy’s Breath Porter and a smoky kiss of our 110K+OT Series #1 Der Rauch Gott.

Release 2: blend of Big Sound Scotch Ale, 110k+OT Series #2, and Bolita Double Nut Brown, aged in Makers Mark Barrel.

Release 3: blend of Bolita Double Nut Brown Ale, Improv Oatmeal Rye India-style Brown Ale, and Big Sound Scotch Ale, aged in a Maker’s Mark bourbon barrel.

Release 4: blend of Soggy Loaf Rye Porter, Warmer Winter Winter Warmer, and Big Sound Scotch Ale.

Millbock Brewing Introduces Brown Porter

Harrisburg favorite Millbock Brewing is adding Brown Porter to their lineup. In the past year, Millbock has seen tremendous success in the area and are continuing their seemingly unending growth with this beer.

Brewer and co-owner Alan Miller says: “Millbock Brown Porter is brewed with a large amount of brown malt which gives it it a nutty, biscuity, roasty and slightly smoky flavor. In addition to the brown malt we use a healthy dose of dark crystal as well as chocolate malts. We use English hops as well as English yeast. The finish is somewhat sweet and at 5.5%abv. Expect to see Millbock brown porter in local establishments in a few weeks.”

The label, which some have described as ‘creepy’, features artwork from Ring Them Bell’s first single.
