Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout

Anderson Valley Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout.

Barney Flats is the Boontling name for Hendy Woods State Park, a deep redwood forrest with a tree canopy so thick it can seem like nighttime at high noon.

It is no wonder that Anderson Valley Brewing Company named its deep, rich, dark oatmeal stout after Barney Flats. Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is full-bodied with a decadent mocha character and smooth mouthfeel balanced by a subtle hop bite. Near and dear to our hearts, Barney Flats was our first gold medal winner in 1990, but recently took bronze at the 2010 World Beer Cup.

Great on its own or as the perfect desert beer. Pair with chocolate and you’ll never have anything else.

As with all of our products, Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is never sterile filtered nor heat pasteurized.

Style: Oatmeal Stout
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft

5.7% ABV,  13 IBU

Le Bilboquet Expands To U.S.

Le Bilboquet Microbrasserie was founded in 1990 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.  It’s a brewpub with an Irish flair.  Previously on available locally, Le Bilboquet recently expanded around Canada and now the United States.  There are 2 sides to their brewing, ones brewed and available just at the brewpub, and ones that are available for distribution.

4 beers just hit larger distribution:

L’Archange – Hefeweizen, 5% abv.  Wheat, malted barley, hallertau hops. Flavors are creamy banana & pear.

La Corriveau – Oatmeal Stout, 5.5% abv.  Beautiful roasty nose.  Flavors of coffee/chocolate. Roasted Barley, oats, Kent Golding.

Mac Kroken Flower – Scotch Ale, 10.8% abv. A big beer, with caramel & honey flavors. Kent Golding hops.

L’Affriolante – Herbed/Spiced Beer, 7% abv.  Malted barley, honey, curacao, coriander, hallertau. Spicy, complex, sweet.

All 4 beers are available in 500 ml bottles, capped.  No specified draft offerings in the U.S.  All the above beers are interesting & complex.  Great beers for those looking for something different.  I dote on the L’Archange & La Corriveau.

NEW BREWERY TO GA: Howe Sound Brewing

Just launched in Georgia is Howe Sound Brewing.  Howe Sound hails from Squamish, British Colombia.  The brewery first opened their doors in 2006 and has been expanding ever since.

History:
We opened our doors in Squamish, BC on July 26, 1996.  The founders of the business were Stephen Shard, David Fenn and the Fenn family.  Stephen Shard left the company in 2001, and today the company remains a family owned enterprise.

We operate out of a beautiful, wooden craft style building, build for our purposes.  The inn consists of a pub, restaurant, banquet room, 20 guest rooms and microbrewery.  The brewery distributes products under the Howe Sound name to over 300 stores and pubs in BC.  In 2009, we began shipments to our beer to the United States and Alberta.

The brewery has won many accolades for the quality of its beers. At the 2007 North American Beer Awards, it won a gold medal for Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale and a bronze medal for Diamond Head Oatmeal Stout.  In 2009, it won a silver medal for Bailout Bitter and a bronze medal for Baldwin and Cooper Best Bitter.  In the winter of 2008, Bailout Bitter received international attention as a recession-fighting beer, and was featured in worldwide media, including Good Morning America, the Globe and Mail, Global TV, and European and Asian press.
