Dogfish Head Scrapple Beer Returns

Dogfish Head’s Beer For Breakfast, aka Scrapple Beer, made a return to the Dogfish Head brewpub today. The meat infused beer made news when it was first released in December of last year.

Being from Delaware, I feel like I have to tell you everything else about Dogfish Head’s Brewpub Exclusive, Beer for Breakfast, before mentioning scrapple so you stick with me.

The brewery has re-released a breakfast themed beer (in the realm of Chicory Stout, brewed with Mexican coffee, licorice root and chicory) but this time they are going all in. Well, as far as ingredients are concerned. The ingredients rundown looks like this:

  • Scrapple Beer contains maple syrup from the trees at Northfield Mount Hermon High School (Sam Calagione met his wife there)
  • Barley smoked over applewood from Delaware’s Fifer Orchards (Bacon anyone?)
  • Lactose (Milk. or milk sugar in this case)
  • Coffee from The Bean Factory in St. Paul, Minnesota, added post fermentation.
  • and 25 pounds of Scrapple from Rapa’s Scrapple.

Don’t know what scrapple is? As the name suggests, it’s pork scraps with spices and corn meal. It’s crazy good, don’t knock it until you try it.

Dogfish Head Beer for Breakfast (a nod to The Replacements song, Beer For Breakfast) first debuted onDecember 5th, 2014 at a special Happy Hour. And well, again today.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Coffee, Lactose, Maple Syrup, Scrapple)
Availability: Draft Only, Brewpub
Return: 2/2/15

Southern Tier 2X Presso Hits Shelves

Southern Tier Brewing (Lakewood, NY) kicks off 2015 with the release of 2X Presso. The base beer is an milk stout, brewed with coffee and lemon peels.

Espresso is a drink that is not for the faint of heart. Pulling a perfect shot is as much a science as it is an art form. Come to think of it, the same can be said for brewing beer. Of course, both coffee and beer have certain, shall we say ‘uplifting’ qualities. Combine the two is a natural progression.

Southern Tier 2X Presso is a winter seasonal in 12oz bottles.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Coffee, Lemon Peels, Lactose.)
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Released: January, 2015

Hangar 24 Barrel Roll Pugachev Mocha Hits in December

Hangar 24 Barrel Roll Pugachev Mocha drops on December 6th, 2014.  This years release sounds like what beer geek dreams are made off. The brewery took a Russian Imperial stout, and aged in it a 25 year bourbon barrel with coffee, cocoa nibs. To smooth it all out, Hangar 24 added lactose too. Yeah, I’m drooling too.

Pugachev Mocha is a truly indulgent creation that brings together ingredients from some of our favorite local craftsmen. It began as a single barrel of our Pugachev’s Cobra, specially aged in a 25 year bourbon barrel for 14 months. Into this barrel went single-origin cacao nibs from Parliament Chocolate, and locally roasted coffee beans from Augie’s Coffee, both located here in Redlands. A head of lactose sugar tops Mocha off, adding body and sweetness for final layer of decadence.

There are less than 70 memberships left in the Barrel Roll program that guarantees you beers like this. Hangar 24 Pugachev Mocha will be available in limited 22oz bombers.

Style: Imperial Milk Stout (w/ Coffee, Cocoa NIbs. Lactose. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bombers. Limited Release.
Arrival: 12/6/14

14.8% ABV
