Sierra Nevada Taps Ruthless To Replace Glissade

Sierra Nevada Ruthless RyeSierra Nevada won’t be releasing Glissade this spring.  Instead, Ruthless Rye IPA will take it’s spot.  Why?  Sierra laments that the first release of the maibock was successful, but the second year wasn’t a great as they hoped.  The style is a hard sell for some.  In case you haven’t noticed, Sierra Nevada does really well with hoppy beers, so ruthless is sure to be a hit.

Ruthless IPA is brewed with this rustic grain for refined flavors – combining the peppery spice of rye and the bright citrusy flavors of whole-cone hops to create a complex ale for the tumultuous transition to Spring.

Style: IPA, brewed with rye malt
Availability: 12oz bottles, draft
Arrival: Taps at Sierra Taproom – 12/20/11.  Early 2012 debut

6.6% ABV

Yazoo Hop Project #61

Yazoo Brewinghas released Hop Project #61:

For this batch, we used some Magnum at the beginning of the boil, and then Warrior and Cascade throughout the boil and for dry-hopping in the fermenter.

We have liked using Warrior but it can have a slight tea-like finish. So our goal was to see how well it blended with a classic citrusy hop like Cascade. It has the aggressive upfront bitterness we’ve come to expect from Warrior, but a mellow grapefruity flavor and aroma.

This batch, #61, will be available in middle TN, and in Knoxville. It’s marked NO61NOV14.11 on the label.
