Harpoon on 100 Barrel White IPA [Video]

Harpoon Brewing is on the cusp of shipping the next 100 Barrel Series release – White IPA. The beer is a new take on the American IPA. Describes as

…notes of orange peel and coriander, the soft mouthfeel reminiscent of a Belgian wit, and the hop additions of Simcoe, Citra and Cascade, he strikes a delicate balance between two disparate styles while showcasing the characteristics of both.

The beer was packaged this month and is ready to ship.  Harpoon brewmaster Ken Hermann chats about the new release.

Cigar City Creates Biggest Batch Of White Oak Jai Alai Yet

Cigar City (Tampa, FL) will spend next week bottling and kegging the largest batch of White Oak Jai Alai IPA they have ever done. The IPA spend some of it’s early life aging on flavorful white oak. The result is tropical, oaky, and flavorful. It’s been a minute since this beer has been released. Many are excited to see it return.

This is an American White Oak-aged version of Jai Alai India Pale Ale. The white oak adds smoothing notes of vanilla and slight hints of dill to the aroma and flavor profile. The finish is elegantly dry due to the light tannin notes from oak aging and though still loaded with hop flavor, hop bitterness is more restrained.

Style: IPA (Oak Aged)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft.

7.5% ABV, 70 IBUs

Brewdog’s Performance Enhancing “Olympic” Beer

How about a beer brewed with creatine, guarana, ginseng, gingo, maca powder, matcha tea, and kola nut. How about a beer that makes empty promises about performance enhancement? That’s Brewdog’s newest beer Never Mind The Anabolics. All those “additives” are a part of a 6.5% ABV IPA brewed in honor of the London Olympics, just days away.

Why waste time training hard? This little beauty does the hard work for you. Guaranteed to boost your sporting ability in an almost completely legal way. Most of the performance enhancing additives we infused into this ale are banned for professional athletes. But winning by any possible means is the name of the game here.

I’m sure the name is a tiny homage to the Sex Pistols only studio they ever produced back in 1993. Back in April, Brewdog launched a beer boasting viagra as an additive to help Prince Willy’s “willy.”

The beer is for sale online, and will hit Brewdog bars in the UK this weekend. $7 (US).

Hoppin’ Frog & De Molen Create European Fusion Beer

Hoppin' Frog U.S. Meets Europe S.I.P.A

Fred Karm of Hoppin’ Frog (Akron, OH) recently spent some time in Europe. Brewers don’t go abroad just to see the sights. They brew.  First stop? Brouwerij De Molen. This is the first of three collaborations he brewed on his trip.  The beer is a fusion of two styles, a saison (of European origin) and a hoppy IPA (America loves the hops).

U.S. MEETS EUROPE S.I.P.A. Collaborating with De Molen Brewery in the “Green Heart” of The Netherlands, we have created a wild and inventive recipe that is a unique blend from the best of both worlds! A super-charged Saison I.P.A. is born, featuring kilos of American hops to add a crazy twist to this European-style ale. The fruity, spicy flavors of this malty Double Saison are nicely complimented by an abundance of late and dry-hopping with the finest American hops.

Style: Ummm…
Availability: 22 oz bombers
Arrival: TBA

10.9% ABV

New Release: Terrapin Samurai Krunkles

Terrapin’s latest Krunkles is headed to shelves. The fictitious (or no so fictitious) Samurai Krunkles gets shipwrecked in Japan. This Side Project #17 is an Asian inspired IPA, brewed with jasmine rice, ginger and jasmine green tea.  That’s on top of 5 different hop varieties you’ll find in this brewing improvisation.

This Asian-inspired IPA is brewed with fragrant jasmine rice, ginger and jasmine green tea for a bold and unique set of flavors built to balance out the hoppy kick present in all Krunkles brews. Yes, Krunkles is known for his love of hops and the Samurai Krunkles is no exception with five hops in the mix. This beer is our homage to the man and the beers we think he brewed while studying with these ancient masters. We call it his version of the tea ceremony.

Style: IPA (w/ Green Tea, Jasmine Rice, Ginger, Dextrose)
Hops: Columbus, Nugget, Falconers Flight, Zythos, Sorachi Ace
Malts: 2-Row, Best Munich, Victory, Pale Crystal
Availability: 22 oz bombers, Draft. One time release.

7.1% ABV
