Shmaltz Death of A Contract Brewer Returns For Halloween

Shmaltz Death Of A Contact Brewer celebrated the brewery opening, by creating a beer celebrating the death of what once was. Contract brewing.

Jeremy Cowan started out of the back of his grandmother’s car in San Francisco, California has grown into a national craft beer sensation. The black IPA will return again in time for Halloween.

Death seems so obvious: the end of life, no mas, kaput. But Humans stand an optimistic animal. Many tradition suggest alternate endings: Resurrection, reincarnation, rebirth, afterlife. Even the atheist view of Eterna Oblivion doesn’t seem quite final, more of a shift in spiritual states of (un)consciousness. As usual, Jewis tradition prescribes… Food. 7 days of family, community, and bagels (beer!), called, Shiva, meaning “7” i Hebrew. The flip side to the 7 days of Creation with the 7th as a holy day of rest. The first meal of Shiva is “th comfort meal.” And the number 7 provides powerful mojo: 7 Jewish wedding blessings, 7 Liberal Arts, 7 Luck Japanese gods, 7 stars of the Big Dipper, 7 colors of the rainbow, 7 seas, 007 license to kill, 7 dwarves, We are by Wordsworth with a child’s view of death, 7 deadly sins, Best of 7 finals in NBA, NHL, MLB, 7th Inning stretch, If on Elway & Tiny Archibald. George Castanza yearned to name his firstborn, “7” as a living tribute to 07 Micke Mantle. The 7 award however must go to the immortal George Carlin for 7 Dirty Words, inspired by another her Lenny Bruce. Coming into 17 years of beer, and Year with our own Brewery, we commemorate this conversio with Death Of A Contract Brewer, our Shmaltz homage to new life – L’Chaim!

Shmaltz Death Of A Contact Brewer is a 12 ounce bottle offering.

21st Amendment Toaster Pastry, a Pop-Tart Inspired Beer

21st Amendment Toaster Pastry, a new Pop-Tart flavored beer releases this month.

First and foremost, the beer is homage to their new San Leandro brewery’s building’s former self, a Kellogg’s plant. (Maker of Pop-Tarts). 21st Amendment Toaster Pastry is billed as an “India-style” red ale, with biscuit malts for a nutty flavor, and dark crystal and pale malts for a strawberry jam taste.

Our first beer out of our new brewery is an homage to its former life as a toaster pastry factory. Biscuit malts give the beer a slightly nutty, crust-like flavor, while pale and dark crystal malts create the mouthfeel and flavors reminiscent of strawberry jam. Calypso and other experimental hops give this ruby ale a welcome bite, plus a few more in the op back for a toasty-sweet aroma.

21st Amendment Toaster Pastry will be available in 19.2 ounce cans when the San Leandro August 29th at the grand opening.

Style: IPA
Availability: 19.2 ounce cans.

Wicked Weed Pernicious Released in Bottles

Wicked Weed Pernicious India Pale Ale has joined the Asheville, North Carolina’s bottle lineup later this year.

The brewery’s new production facility is now online, where both Wicked Weed Pernicious and Freak of Nature have now emerged. Pernicious has already been available on draft in the past.

When the beer debuted in March, Wicked Weed found that Blue Blood Brewing Company in Nebraska already sold a “Pernicious” beer. A quick call to Blue Blood, found their president Brian Podwinski quite amiable, and allowed Wicked to use the name as well.

Pernicious implies influence that is harmful in a way not easily noticed. This beer is harmful, not because of overwhelming hop bitterness, but because its balanced brightness insidiously ruins your expectations for all other IPA’s. This hop delivery vehicle is crafted to enjoy fresh and often, and because of its drinkability and clean finish, you’ll never look at other IPA’s the same again. The harm is done.

Wicked Weed Pernicious is available in 11.2oz bottles.

Style: IPA
Availability: Draft, 11.2oz Bottles
Bottle Release: August, 2015
