Nebraska Black Betty Returns

Nebraska Brewing’s Black Betty makes a reappearance on October 27, 2011.  Aged in Stranahan’s whiskey, soon to be hard to come by.

Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops — held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

Style: Imperial Stout (barrel aged)
Taste Expectations: Vanilla, dark fruits, oak.  Chocolate & coffee.
Availability: 750 ml bottles. Draft.

9% ABV

Wine & Cheese Celebrates 30 With Bad A$$ Barrel Aged Collabs

The Wine and Cheese Place a beer mainstay in the Saint Louis is celebrating 30 years in true beer lover style.  They will be collaborating with local Missouri breweries to create 4 unique, barrel aged beer for sale at their store.

The Collaboration Series started with our decision to start choosing and purchasing our own barrels of Bourbon for our store. The first bourbon we chose was our own Single Barrel of Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Buffalo Trace bottled our bourbon for us and allowed us to keep the empty barrel that it aged in for years. Instead of cleaning and finishing the barrel for display as they usually do for retailers that buy a full barrel Buffalo Trace agreed not to wash or rinse the barrel — they just sealed it up and shipped it to us. Why? We had a great idea to take the barrel and give it to our friends at Schlafly to make a wood-aged beer using our bourbon barrel!! As a result, we have a whole barrel of Bourbon and soon a whole barrel of beer aged in the same cask!

Currently, they have 4 breweries lined up for The Wine and Cheese Place Collaboration Series.

Collaboration 1: Buffalo Trace. Schlafly Brewing’s Quad. In barrels since 8/5/11

Collaboration 2: 9 Year Old Knob Creek Barrel, sent to Perennial Artisanal Ales. Filled with Heart Of Gold Wheatwine. In barrel since 10/6/11

Collaboration 3:  Elijah Craig 12 Year Bourbon Barrel.  Four Hands Brewing Company. Filled with Espresso Vanilla Stout. To be barreled Nov, 2011.

Collaboration 4:  Buffalo Trace Barrel. 2nd Shift Brewing. The brewery wants you to vote on the beer (click here to vote).  Barreled ASAP.

Availability:  18-22 cases of 750-ml bottles. All locations.

Arrival: TBA

Congrats Wine & Cheese on 30 years!

Pumpkinator Release & St. Arnold’s Most Interesting Man In The World

St. Arnold’s
Pumpkinator started out as part of their Divine Reserve Series.  It was so well recieved when it was released back in 2009 that they decided to brew this Imperial Stout/Pumpkin Ale again as a seasonal.  The Imperial Stout base has lots of pumpkin added to it and was dry spiced.  Pumpkinator has been sitting in the tanks since late August until it was just bottled and released today!  People were lined up before 10AM in Houston to get their 4 bottle allotment. Mother Earth Brewing has scheduled the release of it’s winter seasonal, Silent Night, for December 1st.  It will be released in corked 750ml bottles and draft.  Bottles will be available at the taproom and some kegs will make it out across the state.

Right now this festive brew is making its way to 24 whiskey barrels where it will sit for about 2 months.  Then it will be transferred to a brite tank for carbonation before being bottled.

As a special treat this year, Mother Earth Brewing has collaborated with Counter Culture Coffee (Durham, NC) and Silent Night was seeped in the whirlpool with a custom coffee blend made just for the brewery.
