Ken Schmidt Rides Again with Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout

There is no doubt that home brewer Ken Schmidt is a champ. Why? This is his second collaboration with Stone Brewing Co., after winning the the American Homebrewers Rally in San Diego, CA. His first collaboration (Kona Coffee Macadamia Nut Coconut Porter) was brewed with Stone, Maui, and himself. This above Mint Chocolate Imperial Stout swaps Maui for Iron Fist Brewing. This is the 15th edition in Stone’s collaboration series.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ken Schmidt is one of the most creative brewers in the San Diego area. Thus, it is no surprise that he won (for the second time) our annual March Madness Homebrew Competition and AHA Rally. His winning beer is exquisitely well-crafted with amazing chocolate and mint flavors, and was, quite frankly, a challenge for us to replicate on our own system. But, given our past success with Ken’s first beer, and by enlisting the help of Brandon Sieminski from Iron Fist, I’m sure we’ve nailed it: a lusciously smooth imperial oatmeal stout teeming with cocoa and mint. This is one to enjoy now as an after-dinner sipper, or to cellar for several years. — Mitch Steele

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Chocolate, Mint)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, limited Draft.
Arrival: TBA

9.6% ABV

Details & Art: Sierra Nevada’s Narwhal

Sierra Nevada Brewing’s Narwhal Imperial Stout is coming your way in October, 2012. Above is the first look at the artwork. Down below heavy clouds, swollen and green with electric rain, the two-grinned snake waves at us in the arrythmic symphony. We dance up the leg of a star dusted mountain; from its summit our souls are projected into the darkness of the universe as scattered laser light beams. We seek the taste of eternity.  You dig?

Hops: Millenium, East Kent Goldings
Malts: Pale malt, Black, Carafa, Dark Crystal

Availability: 750 ml bottles
Arrival: TBA

Jester King & Mikkeller’s Barrel Aged Weasel Rodeo Also Available

Jester King/Mikkeller Barrel Aged Weasel Geek RodeoA smidge earlier than Jester King expected,

is their Barrel Aged Weasel Rodeo. The barrel aged edition of the Mikkeller collaboration spent 6 months getting funky in whiskey barrels.

Whiskey Barrel Rodeo (12.0% ABV) is the barrel aged version of Jester King / Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo, an unfiltered, unpasteurized, naturally carbonated Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with chipotle peppers, smoked malt and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak Coffee and fermented with farmhouse yeast. After being brewed with Mikkeller at Jester King in November of 2011, Whiskey Barrel Rodeo spent six months aging in whiskey barrels followed by another three months of bottle conditioning. Unlike most of our barrel aged beers where we use barrel aging to impart funky, sour flavors and aromas, Whiskey Barrel Rodeo was aged in whiskey barrels to impart flavors of oak, vanillin and residual whiskey.

This beer is limited to  100 cases (1200 750ml bottles)

Bottles of Jester King / Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo have left our brewery and will begin making their way throughout Texas and to Denmark. We also sent a small amount to Alabama, along with several of our other beers, in celebration of the State’s long-awaited legalization of 750ml bottles, starting the first of this month.

Weasel Rodeo (10.1% ABV) is an unfiltered, unpasteurized, bottle conditioned Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with chipotle peppers, smoked malt and Vietnamese Kopi Luwak coffee and fermented with farmhouse yeast.

While some retailers in Texas should begin receiving Weasel Rodeo very soon, we ask for your patience as we rely upon a small, artisanal wine distributor to bring our beer to market.
