Founders KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa a new variant of the brewery’s famed Kentucky Breakfast Stout debuts in November.
For years, the ‘Ides of March’ brought the seasonal release of Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout, aka KBS. Like everything in beer brewing, things change. Founders shifted KBS to year-round status and started releasing variants of the venerable stout.
…the sumptuous, deep coffee and chocolate flavors of KBS rise to the next level with a swirl of cinnamon and a hint of vanilla to create a sweet-but-not-too-sweet barrel-aged drinking experience. It’s a whole new spin on KBS that’s sure to sweeten your spirits.
Joining Founders KBS Cinnamon Vanilla Cocoa will also be the return of KBS Espresso. Both will be available in 12-ounce bottles and draft across the brewery’s distribution starting in November 2021.

Founders KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge, a variant of the well-known Kentucky Breakfast Stout, debuts in October.
This is just the second variant the brewery has released of KBS after KBS Espresso debuted earlier this year. This edition is brewed with Mackinac Fudge Coffee and maple syrup, then aged in oak bourbon barrels.
“We’ve been enjoying beers brewed with the Mackinac Fudge coffee in our taproom for years, and now we’re finally bringing that treatment to KBS. It takes the chocolate flavor traditionally found in KBS to a whole new level. Add in a hint of maple syrup and now you have an elegant, yet explosive new flavor experience.” – Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki.
Founders KBS Maple Mackinac Fudge will be available in the taproom on October 8th, shipping nationally shortly after, with the exception of Mississippi. The estimated retail price is $24 dollars/4 pack.
Debut: Early October 2020

The result is a fresh and snappy coffee twist on our classic barrel-aged beer. Who says you can’t start your day with a barrel-aged stout?

Founders CBS will return to the brewery’s Barrel-Aged lineup again on November`1st. This is last time you’ll see it for some time.
One of the most demanded beers in Grand Rapids, Michigan based Founders Brewing’s lineup is CBS, aka Canadian Breakfast Stout.
The imperial stout is brewed with a blend of coffee and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup. Folks go insane at the mere mention of this beer.
The first time the world saw bottles of this release was in October of 2011, as the second release in the brewery’s Backstage Series.
Since then, the Backstage Series has grown eventually morphing into the Barrel-Aged Series. Fans begged, but CBS was still missing from the lineup until December of last year. Since then, CBS has made just two more times, with the latest release missing the iconic Canadian Mountie rider. Why? The Royal Canadian Mounted Police filed a legal cease & desist over the depiction of the Mountie seen in the Beer Street Journal pic below. We know it’s not a titillating story, but it solves the mystery behind the horse with no rider on the last bottle.
CBS will return November 1st as the 5th release in the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series, in both 750-milliliter bottles and new 12-ounce bottles. According to Founders, this is the last time this beer will be released in the foreseeable future.
Founders Underground Mountain Brown will be the 4th release in the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series this August.
Brewery fans know this beer under a different name, Barrel-Aged Sumatra Mountain Brown. Founder takes an imperial brown ale, adds Sumatra coffee, and ages it in bourbon barrels in their caves for nearly a year. This release follows new margarita-inspired Mas Agave, presumably on shelves now.
A team of malts complements the bold Sumatra coffee perfectly, while time spent immersed in oak creates layers of depth and complexity. A celebration of the barrel, the bean and everything in between.
Founders Underground Mountain Brown will be available in 12- ounce and 750-milliliter bottles, as well as draft, starting in mid-August.
11.9% ABV, 30 IBUs
Founders Barrel Runner will join the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series in June.
The weather is finally warmer, perfect for sipping this pirate-themed, rum ladened offering – Founders Barrel Runner. The base beer is an imperial India pale ale brewed with mosaic hops, that has been aged in rum barrels.
This is the 4th release in the Michigan-based brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series lineup this year. Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS), Backwoods Bastard and brand new Founders Dankwood (bourbon barrel-aged red ale) have hit shelves ahead of this release.
“I drink tiki cocktails probably more than I should and looked to them for inspiration when creating Barrel Runner. You get a lot of bright, tropical character from the abundance of Mosaic hops plus a nice kick of oak and rum from the barrels. Add a tiny umbrella and you got yourself a beer perfect for enjoying poolside.” – Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki.
Founders Barrel Runner will be available in 12-ounce and 22-ounce bottles and draft, starting in June 2018.
Availability: 12oz Bottles, 22oz Bottles, Draft. June-August
Debut: June 2018
Founders Dankwood is coming to the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series in April.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan based brewery has taken a “big, bold” imperial red ale, and aged it for a while in bourbon oak barrels. The resulting beer is described by Founders as having “rich caramel notes emerge from the depths of the IPA, highlighting strong malt character while the bourbon barrel-aging develops the complexity”.
Founders Dankwood will be the third release in the brewery’s Barrel-Aged Series, following the venerable KBS in March, and Backwoods Bastard (the brewery’s newest year-round beer) in April.
Expect both 750-milliliter bottles, 12-ounce bottles, and draft.
