Cypress Street’s Beer Geek Tuesday – 6/22

I’m really starting to look forward to Tuesdays.  It means awesome beer at Cypress Street.  Tonight features 3 beers from Allagash, paired with gourmet cheese.

The beers:

Odyssey – Belgian Dark Wheat, 10% ABV.  Barrel Aged.  In it’s second year.  Partially aged in Medium toast oak, another in stainless steel fermenters for 6 months.  Both are then blended together. Bottle conditioned with more yeast and Belgian Candi sugar.

Interlude – American Wild Ale, 9.5 ABV.  New release by Allagash.  Aged in French merlot and sirah barrels.  Belgian style ale.  House strain of Brettanomyces yeast. Bottle conditioned.  Unforgettable.

Four – Quad, 10% ABV.  Brewed with four malts, four hops, four sugars, and Belgian yeast strain.  Sugars include Light & Dark candi sugars, light golden molasses and date sugar.   Re fermented with 3 different strains, and then bottle fermented with a fourth in the cellar.  Life changing.

Each of these beers retail around 8-10 dollars a glass, close to 20.00 for a 750 ML corked and caged bottle.  Cypress brought in a true cheese head to design pairings with these elegant Allagash beers.  For $30 you get 3 beers and 3 cheese courses.  Hopefully you see the deal here.  It would cost you what I figure to be about $80 to pull this off at home.

Pairings begin at 6pm today – 6/22.

Cypress Street’s Beer Geek Tuesday 4/6

Just when you thought you missed the last opportunity for a whole year for a shot a very tasty and well sought after imperial IPA, here is another chance.

Tonight at Cypress Street Pint & Plate – Bell’s Hopslam.  Yes, 1 of a few rare kegs that have found their way to Atlanta after the city drained the assumed first round.  Wes Anderson, beer manager at Cypress got his hands on one of these hard to find hoppy kegs and is featuring it tonight starting at 6 pm.

If you find yourself out of the loop –  Bell’s Hopslam is a double IPA or Imperial IPA released seasonally, and is very limited.  Bell’s only produces this beer for a little over a month and half each year.   In many cities, it sells out fast, leaving many people without.  The name pretty much tells you what to expect — a Hopslam.   This beer has an absolutely fantastic hop aroma.  If you love the smell of hops, you are definitely in the right place.  Expect piney and grapefruit hop tones on your palette.  While it has a slight bitter finish, Hopslam really reminds you first and foremost that hops are a flower.

It’s pretty cool these kegs are popping up now.  There are a couple more tapping soon.  Stay tuned for details.

Hopslam is 10% ABV

Cypress Street’s Beer Geek Tuesday 3/23

It’s Tuesday again, one of 7 great nights for drinking great beer.   Tonight at Cypress Street, Terrapin Brewing (Athens, Ga) is the featured brewer.  I’ve already mentioned the cask – Terrapin Hopsecutioner w/ whiskey chips.  The Capt’n will be making an appearance too.    Here’s your rundown.

CASK – Hopsecutioner. American IPA, 7.2% ABV.  Newest full time offering by Terrapin, and only the 2nd distributed IPA in the Atlanta market.  The brewers at Terrapin soaked American oak chips in Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon, then added those chips to the cask.  Woodford Reserve is very bold, and presents very well on the palette.  Looking forward to this one.

Capt’n Krunkles – IPA, 7.5% ABV.  Newest Side Project release by Terrapin – #10.  Unofficially a black IPA, Krunkles is a hoppy IPA with dark roasty malts.  Hops include – Warrior, Columbus, Nugget, Centennial, Simcoe.  Dry Hopped w/ Ahtanum.  Malts – 2 Row Pale, Dark Munich, Crystal 24, DH Carafa III.  I think you’re in for a pleasant surprise.

Rye Squared – Imperial IPA, 8.5% ABV.  Part of Terrapin’s Monster Beer Tour, limited seasonal release.  Lots of strong aromatic & bittering hops. Hops include – Magnum, Fuggle, East Kent, Golding, Cascade, Amarillo (Dry Hop.)  Released in February.  Balanced, clean, cellars well.

All beers tap tonight at 7pm! Come hear Cypress Street brag about their People’s Choice Cask win at Sweetwater’s Brew Your Cask Off on Saturday! Congratulations again!

Cypress Street’s Beer Geek Lineup – 3/9

There are a lot of great things coming up for Cypress Street’s Beer Geek Tuesdays. I can’t wait to start talking about them.  Tomorrow – Dogfish Head Brewery is the featured brewery – with food to compliment.

Cypress Street just got a new chef in the kitchen, and beer manager Wes Anderson wants to show him off.  Tomorrow night will feature 3 offerings from Dogfish Head with food pairings.   The beers are –

Midas Touch – Spice Beer, 9% ABV.  Recipe is based off the oldest known fermented beverage in the world.  It’s a Turkish recipe found on drinking vessels  from the 2700 year old tomb of King Midas.  A mixture of what could be a wine & a mead.  Grapes, honey, juice and malt are present.  Offered year round.

Pangea – Belgian Strong Pale, 7%.  Pangea is brewed with ingredients from every continent. Crystallized ginger from Australia, Basmati rice from Asia, Muscavado sugar from Africa, Quinoa from South America, North American Maize, even water from Antarctica.  Released in the fall in 750 ml bottles.

Burton Baton – Double IPA, 10% ABV.  Burton is a blend of an English Strong Ale aged in Oak, and DFH’s 90 Minute IPA.  Oakey vanilla is prevalent, with the northwestern citrus hops found in 90 Min.  Limited release.

Each of these beers will have a food pairing – $25 dollars for all three. Not a bad deal honestly, as Pangea retails for $10+ dollars a bottle alone.

Starts at 7pm!
