Acer Quercus

Last Thursday, The Bruery opened up about their current capacity, lineup changes, & their future.  Something I didn’t quite understand at the time (and overlooked) was that the title of the email I received was called “Project Quercus Maximus.”  Nothing else was mentioned about the peculiar title, but I went with it.  Now this little number has shown up, “Acer Quercus” a collaboration brewed with Sean Lawson of Lawson’s Finest Liquids.

Lawson’s is a small brewery based in Warren, Vermont.  Every beer is brewed in very small batches, sold in a few select places in the Mad River Valley of Vermont.  Acer Quercus is a collaboration that spans nearly the length of the United States in a maple and oak laden concoction.

A collaboration between The Bruery and Lawson’s Finest Liquids, this complex ale is seeping with Vermont maple syrup & maplewood smoked malt.

Maple Syrup & oak cubes. Sounds like a great fall release, or a pancake pairing.  Oak cubes are literally little cubes of oak available at different toast levels (how bold the oak flavor expressed.)  Vermont produces some of the best maple syrup in the world.

Style: Brown Ale
Availability: 750ml champagne style bottles.  Areas TBD
Cellar? Yes

9.5% ABV

Lawson’s has an award winning small batch (less than 400 bottles) annual release each year around April.   Sounds like Acer Quercus might have a little in common. Label below…

Sneak Peak: Savor Flowers Bottle

Dogfish Head have the world a sneak preview of the “Savor Flowers” bottle today.  Flowers is a collaboration brew between Sam Adams’s Jim Koch & Sam Calagione from Dogfish Head.   Flowers will only be available at Savor in Washington D.C. in June.

Savor Flowers is brewed with dried red & white rose petals, plus 2 other kinds of roses.  The hops are experimental, known only by a name “369.”  As if the beer needed to be a bit MORE unique, this floral offering is aged in a special whiskey barrel dear to Jim Koch, one he aged a triple bock in back in the ’90s.

Total production is limited to 30 barrels.

10% ABV

Flying Dog Collaborates With Brewer’s Art

Flying Dog Brewing is creating a special collaboration with Brewer’s Art.  Brewer’s is a microbrewery and restaurant based in Baltimore, MD.  Brewer’s keeps around 4 beers on tap year round, and has a over 20 seasonals.

The collaboration is called “Table For Two.”  Designed to be a Belgian style table beer.  Table beers were an essential part of Belgian culture for a long time before going out of style.  Table beers were even given to school kids with their lunches, as it was healthier than sugary drinks.  A table beer was very low alcohol, in the 1%-2% range.  The beer is much higher in abv, clocking in at 5%.  As the label suggests, this beer is also brewed with honey.

Availability: Unknown. Speculation: Sold in the restaurant @ Brewer’s Art. Not far out of MD. 12oz bottles.

5% ABV
