Flying Monkeys & Bare Naked Ladies Create Collab Brew

Flying Monkeys Brewery in Canada is creating a beer with the Bare Naked Ladies dubbed BNL Strong Beer, debuting soon.

You know the phrase “It never hurts to ask?” Well that’s what Flying Monkey’s Founder Peter Chiodo found out recently. Chiodo reached out to rock band Bare Naked Ladies asking to brew a musical collaboration beer. As you can already deduce, they accepted and brewing commenced. The result is BNL Strong Beer.

BNL Strong Beer is a “fudge-y imperial chocolate stout” that’s a solid 11% ABV. “They were totally involved in the birth of this beer. BNL member Kevin Hearn contributed some great original artwork for the beer’s packaging —quirky, colourful, and perfectly Flying Monkeys — and the guys came to join us for an actual brew day.”

Those American fans – I am going to have to disappoint you. The beer will only be available in Canada, coinciding with the band’s new “Symphony Barenaked” tour.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Chocolate)
Availability: Bottles, Canada only

11% ABV

Ommegang/Duvel Collab “Rustica” Arrives In October

Coming this October is a new collaboration between Brewery Ommegang and Duvel.  Rustica features the best of both worlds. For this collaborative brew, Ommegang changed just one detail about the infamous golden ale by Duvel – the yeast.   Ommegang’s house yeast gives this a fruitier, funkier note.

It’s our first Belgian-style Golden Ale, a elegant ale noted for using simple ingredients to create complex flavors and aromas. We worked closely with Duvel on the recipe and processes, yet added our own signature notes. This Duvel collaboration created a fine ale, one with all the depth and breadth of Duvel’s classic Belgian Golden Ale, along with rustic notes, including fruity esters from our yeast.  RUSTICA is brewed with generous amounts of fine Pils malts, like like Duvel. It’s hopped with Styrian Coldings, like Duvel. It comes in at 8.5% abv, like Duvel. And it offers lively carbonation with a large frothy white head, like Duvel.

Style: Farmhouse Ale
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Corked & Caged. Draft
Arrival: Early October, 2012

8.5% ABV

Stone, Stillwater & Evil Twin Create “The Perfect Crime”

Recently, Stillwater Artisanal Ales  and Evil Twin Brewing, (2 “gyspy brewers”) travelled to Escondido, California to collaborate with Stone Brewing Co. The triumvirate pulled off The Perfect Crime.  The result is a smokey black saison that really fits the mysterious nature of these traveling breweries.

I first heard the term “gypsy brewer” in reference to Mikkel Borg-Bjergso, back in 2008, when we brewed our very first collaboration beer with Mikkel and Peter Zien of AleSmith. And now we are thrilled to welcome two more famous gypsy brewers to our brewery: Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergso of Evil Twin Brewing ( Mikkel’s brother– hence the name) and Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales. Jenne and Brian have brewed together before, and both have excellent pedigrees in brewing unique Belgian- inspired beers. Their shady influence was felt throughout the brewing of this mysterious block beer, and we were excited to be able to brew it. – Mitch Steele

Style: Saison (Smoked)
Availability: 12 oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: TBA

7.5% ABV
