DC Brau and Union Craft Brewing Team Up for CBC

Even more beer for the CBC! DC Brau proudly teams up with Baltimore’s Union Craft Brewing to bring the 4th installment of their Craft Brewer’s Conference 2013 lineup – Yonder Cities. This Farmhouse IPA means more to the two breweries than just another beer.

“Soon after returning from CBC 2011, DC Brau were one of the first breweries we reached out to when we were in our start-up phase and they received us with open arms, offering us great advice and friendship. Like our neighboring cities, our breweries are kindred spirits and we are very proud to have brewed this amazing beer with them. As both breweries continue to grow within our own cities, we look forward to many more exciting partnerships with our beltway brothers.” – Jon Zerivitz of Union Craft Brewing.

Other beers in DC Brau’s CBC lineup include Beggars and Thieves Anti-Imperial Ry Lager collaboration with Devils Backbone and The Brewer’s Art; Taster’s Choice collaboration with SKA Brewing and The Pietastes; and Colliding Hemispheres collaboration with Briess Malts and Hop Union. A draft only preview of Yonder Cities will be available March 16th at DC Brau and then city-wide in Baltimore and DC during CBC 2013.

Denver Comic Con and Breckenridge Want YOU to Name Their Beer

While last year’s epic Fantastic Pour may be hard to follow, Breckenridge Brewing and Denver Comic Con want you to come up with a name for this year’s special beer. The beer will be a Belgian witbier infused with Buddha’s hand, an odd-looking, tentacled yellow citrus fruit from Asia. There has to be some sort of nerdy pun in this whole thing somewhere and Breckenridge wants you to find it.

Once the name is chosen, a custom label will be created in time for the debut at a launch party around the first week of May. So what’s in it for the winner? How about a year’s worth of beer, 4 collector pint glasses, a Breckenridge tap handle with the beer’s name on it, and a Denver Comic Con swag bag. That’s right, a year’s worth of free beer! For more more information, the fine print, and where to enter check out the Facebook page here.

Style: Witbier (with Buddha’s Hand)
Availability: on tap only during Denver Comic Con
Arrival: May 2013

6% ABV

Lakefront and Leinenkugel’s to Team Up Again

Lakefront Brewing has announced that they will once again collaborate with Leinenkugel’s for the Wisconsin Restaurant Expo this week and Craft Beer Week in May. Checkpoint Charlie, a Berliner Weisse, is brewed with Wisconsin wheat and will be served with a dash of cherry syrup from Milwaukee-based Bittercube in traditional Berliner style.

This is the third consecutive year the two brewers have joined up to make a special beer. Previous years’ collabs include Oaty Goat Doppelbock and Rye Road.

“We’ve had fun collaborating with Leinenkugel’s the past few years, and even more importantly, we’ve enjoyed drinking the beer we’ve brewed. I think people will find Checkpoint Charlie to be an interesting and flavorful beer experience, which is what we aimed to create.” Russ Klisch, president Lakefront Brewery.

Style: Berliner Weisse
Availability: in bottles, on tap
Arrival: TBA

Flying Dog and Evolution Foster Natural Selection

Maryland’s Flying Dog Brewing and Evolution Brewing are combining their skills to create Natural Selection – a 3 part beer release series. The first beer will be Genus One, a stock ale, that will release in March. After that each brewery will brew a second batch with Flying Dog’s being dry hopped for Genus Two and Evolution’s barrel aged to create Genus Three.

We’ve had a lot of fun at Evolution designing beers to pair with different barrel types and this is an opportunity to expand on that experience. Creating a beer that can express barrel character in our release while complementing dry-hopping in the Flying Dog version was a great challenge and I’m looking forward to the results.” -Geoff DeBisschop of Evolution Brewing

Genus One will debut at this year’s Craft Brewers Conference in Washington DC. Genus Two and Genus Three will be ready in October. All three releases will only be available in the Mid-Atlantic market.
