Stone Announces Homebrew Collaboration Winner

Stone Brewing recently hosted their 5th annual AHA Rally and Homebrew Competition boasting the largest one yet with over 400 people and 30 unique beers on tap. Attendees sampled their way around the interesting varieties with the highest voted beers reviewed by Stone’s expert team of  Stone Co-founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner along with Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich, and Craft Beer Ambassador “Dr.” Bill Sysak. In the end there can only be one winner, and this years selection is a Coconut IPA brewed by Society of Barley Engineers brethren and collaborators Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan.

“Expect a brew with such a lusciously sweet, tropical aroma you’ll be challenged to break away from inhaling long enough to take a sip. Soft in tone and texture, it’s an elegant and restrained IPA that harmoniously marries lightly toasted coconut with Citra and Galaxy hops.”

Tröegs Teams Up with Church Brew Works

Tröegs Brewing has teamed up with fellow PA brewery Church Brew Works on a brand new collaboration beer. The brewing took place at Church’s facilities in Pittsburgh with a German sour wheat beer being the result. Given Pennsylania’s deep German heritage, it will be great to see how this Lichtenhainer turns out. Tröegs reassures that more details on this beer will follow.

Yazoo & Calfkiller’s “The Beacon” Fights Stupid Beer Taxes

It’s a pathetic situation when craft brewers have to fight to change the laws just to exist. In Tennessee, craft brewers are charged more per gallon, then wine or beers from larger, non craft breweries. That is what brings Yazoo Brewing (Nashville, TN) and Calfkiller Brewing (Sparta, TN) together. The Beacon aka A Tennessee High Tax Ale.

Brewed with smoked wheat this unique style knows no limits, but is already guaranteed to have the highest taxes in the nation. Cut the red tape, pop the cap, and enjoy this oppressively refreshing ale!

Style: Wheat Ale (Smoked)
Availability: 750 ml bottles

Iron Maiden to Create Beer [VIDEO]

Who knew that Iron Maiden was a fan of traditional English cask beer? Now THAT’S metal! In conjunction with Robinson’s Brewery in the UK Iron Maiden has created Trooper Ale which should be available in May. There’s no official word yet whether or not this will hit the US. Start crossing your fingers now.

“I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous — Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is Trooper. I love it.” – Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden lead singer
