Oskar Blues & Asheville Brewing Collaborate. You Name It.

Asheville Brewing Company and Oskar Blues Brewery have just created a new North Carolina collaboration brew. It is the first by Oskar Blues since moving into Brevard, NC.  The beer? An imperial coffee brown ale brewed with a smidge of  molasses. The beer was brewed at Asheville Brewing.  They want help naming the beer. Here’s some hints…

Think Alabama/Southern roots (both Doug Riley and DaleKatechis are from that Magnolia-strewn state). Think big, bold lightly-hopped nectar with a malty, steeped with Ethiopian-blend coffee, backbone. Think fun, punny, and a little outrageous (but not crude). Winner will receive a t-shirt from both breweries and huge street cred.

Drop an idea on their Facebook page.  Pic via Asheville Brewing.

Style: Imperial Brown Ale (w/ Coffee)
Availability: Draft Only
Arrival: 4/8/13

If you go:

Simultaneous release parties on April 8th at each brewery (North Carolina).

Stone Brewing Still Teasing Collab Beer

Stone Brewing has once again acknowledged their upcoming collaboration beer with Wil Wheaton and Drew Curtis. This super secret undisclosed beer will be brewed on April 3rd 2013 with a meet-and-greet scheduled the evening before at Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens at 5:30 pm. The only new information we have is that they hope to launch the beer the same week that Comic Con takes over San Diego. Even more of a tease, Stone has this to say “set your phasers to stun and your taste buds to anxious. We’re harnessing the powers of space and the stars to bring you something you’ve never seen or tasted before!”

Stone Announces Homebrew Collaboration Winner

Stone Brewing recently hosted their 5th annual AHA Rally and Homebrew Competition boasting the largest one yet with over 400 people and 30 unique beers on tap. Attendees sampled their way around the interesting varieties with the highest voted beers reviewed by Stone’s expert team of  Stone Co-founders Greg Koch and Steve Wagner along with Brewmaster Mitch Steele, Small Batch Brewer Laura Ulrich, and Craft Beer Ambassador “Dr.” Bill Sysak. In the end there can only be one winner, and this years selection is a Coconut IPA brewed by Society of Barley Engineers brethren and collaborators Robert Masterson and Ryan Reschan.

“Expect a brew with such a lusciously sweet, tropical aroma you’ll be challenged to break away from inhaling long enough to take a sip. Soft in tone and texture, it’s an elegant and restrained IPA that harmoniously marries lightly toasted coconut with Citra and Galaxy hops.”

Tröegs Teams Up with Church Brew Works

Tröegs Brewing has teamed up with fellow PA brewery Church Brew Works on a brand new collaboration beer. The brewing took place at Church’s facilities in Pittsburgh with a German sour wheat beer being the result. Given Pennsylania’s deep German heritage, it will be great to see how this Lichtenhainer turns out. Tröegs reassures that more details on this beer will follow.
